Steelers in Phoenix/Scotsdale
I plan to be in Scotsdale for the week of Nov 20 to 26. Can anybody tell me where I migh find some live bands WITH A STEEL PLAYER. Phoenix or Scotsdale would be fine as they are close together. Many thanks. Don.

Don, Head a little bit north and west of Scottsdale a great little town called Cave Creek. Find the Buffalo Chip Saloon. There you'll find The Pat James Band featuring the great Danny Sneed playing his Mullen. At least that's what he was playing last time I saw him about a month ago. Danny is one of the best steel players anywhere. Right across the parking lot from there is a place called Harold's. Occasionally they have a band called Young Country playing there. If you find that band they will have Mike Smith on Steel. Another one of the greats anywhere. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Phoenix at 55th Avenue and Camelback road at a place called The Detour Bar you'll find Jimmy Walls playing Steel. Jimmy plays great too.

Hey Don, Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys will be at the Rhythm Room on Nov. 23. They always put on a good show.

Brett and Bob,
Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately, I won't be at Harold's that weekend with Young Country (which is a wonderful band). Our own band scored a couple of corporate gigs back to back, 25th and 26th. Although they are private, the 25th will be for an event by one of the large pools at the Fairmont Princess Resort (Scottsdale) and probably won't end up being very private.
Don, if you're interested you can write me as I should know more details soon.

So Mike won't be in Cave Creek that weekend and your stuck with just seeing and hearing Danny....
What a treat for you........and you won't have to put up with Mike bringing you up in front of the crowd and making you one of the dancing idiots in the, "12 days of Christmas song!"
(Just a little dig, Mike!)

Regarding Bob Williams's post, I highly recommend that you check out those Sunday afternoon jams at the Rock Springs Cafe. This is one of the best places near Phoenix. It's an old western bar made of hundred-year-old mining and ranching stuff. And there is a down-home restaurant next door that is so good that people drive 50 miles from Phoenix jus to buy their pies. I swear! I stop there whenever I'm driving by. And when friends come to town, I take them up there. It's one of the best things in the whole dang state, and I'm not just saying that--I don't know anybody who would benefit from what I'm saying (except those who go).
