Marcel - Yes, I will be at the Irish Festival in October. Do you remember the 2006 festival and jam in the bar? I recall, I was playing guitar, you were on one side of me playing steel and Derek Thurlby was calling out chord numbers on the other side of me.... that was fun.... Then the Irish Gypsy's came in.... Ted sorted them out!

Yeh, I remember it. It's was a lot of fun, Especially after a couple of beers and whiskey. Thats gypsy's produce more sounds then the whole band together.
They are lucky that Ted sent them away otherwise I must do it by myself. Ha Ha.

Superb improvisation, and I especially appreciated you stating the main melody before the "Excursion" ..Tasty..

Your C6th work is getting to be most impressive, and whilst Curly Chalker developed the chordal changes currently in vogue, and long before Buddy Emmons and Maurice Anderson et al. developed the single note 'take offs', the Hawaiian Players did it first.
Joaquin Murphey got it from Eddie Bush who got it from Sol Hoopii who got it from Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman.
Your single note runs are reminiscent of what an excellent clarinet or trumpet player would do..

You've also helped me solve a problem I have finding "Up Tempo" material for a gig that Pat and I have at the "Tate Modern", I CAN get away playing this tune at an "Hawaiian Evening" as it was regularly played by all the Hawaiian Groups in the thirties.. Like this :-Click

As you're probably aware most Hawaiian Guitar instrumental arrangements are rather slow tempo, so an up-tempo version of this may fit the bill.
I'm ecstatic that I can "Steel" (Steal) one from you .

Thank you for your very nice comment Basil. I'm sure you already know, Rod King and your good self have greatly inspired me at John Davis's steel meetings.

It was interesting to read your informative posting. A while back I became interested in the "source" of playing styles and started listening carefully to Joaquin Murphey, Maurice Anderson and Curly Chalker, to name just a few. Going back in time I expected to hear playing techniques regress... but far from it! For example, if you compare Spade Cooley - Joaquin Murphey with the Time Jumpers - Paul Franklin... it would be a hard call! Paul's speed runs are something special, but Joaquin's tone and chord work are awesome. I especially like this clip..
