Those are great guitars! I used to own one. A very bright sound.

Guys, it doesn't really matter whether a Fender is a fake if it plays well. For example, look at all of the prescription drugs today where the generic version is just as good as the original, but at half the price.

It's the American way to produce a quality product cheaper than the original.

That's likely a good sounding guitar.

Hopefully not as bright as a Stringmaster? I'm trying to get away from that.

I haven't owned a Stringmaster, but my experience with Strats and Teles tells me that a Deluxe to Stringmaster comparison would be like the bridge pup on a Tele to the mid/bridge combo on a Strat. It's one single coil vs two single coils.

Of course, what kind of amp and amp settings you use, where you set the tone and volume knobs on the guitar, what fx if any you use, what kind of cables you use and the physical properties of the room you are playing in will all have an impact on how bright/dark you perceive the tone as being.

Mine was certainly brighter than any humbucker equipped guitar I've ever heard. YMMV.

I don't think they're as bright as the Stringmaster style pickups. There have been several discussions in the past regarding the differences between the trapezoid pickups like this Fender Deluxe in this eBay auction and the later Stringmaster style Fender Deluxe lap steels.

That's definitely a real Fender Deluxe, by the way, very similar to the one I own from 1953. Everything appears to be okay based on that single photo. I wish the seller had more and better photos, though.

Just arrived and it is "very" real !

Post by Raymond Jones »

Shipping into Canada takes a little longer, but, this was worth the wait. Opening the case was like finding a barn fresh, hidden away, Model T, "untouched" since all those years of storage. Price of an old guitar is exactly that - "the price", what you where willing to pay for your chance to own some history. It does not always go in your favour, this one did. Within an hour I had taken off the few strings that where there, removed the gear head, boiled it out, polished the metal and lubed the gears, reinstalled the head and cleaned and polished the complete guitar, restrung and tuned. I will add a drop or two of pot cleaner and that is it. Under the gear head- EM, 11-24-52. It feels so good when a plan comes together. Good hunting to all who seek their passion. Cheers - Ray

$457 is a good deal. This is one of the best sounding steel guitars ever made IMO if the pickup is healthy. I have the triple neck version and love it.
