This just in from Tophand frontman, Craig Chambers. Tom Morrell is very excited about the upcoming reunion. Many of the Tophands have already agreed to participate in honor of their good friend Tom and the list is growing. This should be a night to remember!

Regarding the afternoon Jam. This is for those of you who would like to arrive in the afternoon and have the opportunity to get some of your own licks in with your buddies and peers before the reunion at 6pm. The Tophands are not guaranteed to be there before 5pm, but don't let that stop you. We'd love to see you there playin' with your fellow pickers and getting things warmed up for the big reunion. Please refer to the previous post and contact Cathi Parsons at (mskldy@charter.net), or contacct Jimmy & Starla Queen at(duhozarks@charter.net) if you plan on participating. Look forward to seeing you all there!!

Cathi is checking on special motel rates over the weekend! We will post more info on Monday. Thanks!

After reading Bobby Caldwell's post under extended family - here's an idea:

For those who can't make it, how about leaving Tom a special message here on the forum and I will print them for him and we can give them to him! Thanks!

Hey, Tommy. Just a word to say I'm sorry I can't be there in November for the big celebration. You know, your set in Dallas is always one of the highlights of my year. Tommy M: yo da man!

Jimmy- I do plan to attend Tom and the Tophands Reunion Show(if all possible). I think Tom has done as much as anyone to keep good music coming out over the last 15 years or so! To me, Tommy is on my top 5 greatest players list! He has tremendous command of the instrument. I just wish I could talk him into doing a recording with pedals on a big, heavy D10! All My Best! RP

Please keep those messages for Tom coming! We will print them and make sure he receives them! I'd love to take an entire book of messages! He's an extraordiary player and needs all of our support.

Don't forget to read the "Tom Morrell" post under Extended Family to also send Tom a birthday card (his birthday is Halloween).

Tom has lost a tremendous amount of weight and we want to show him how much everyone loves him. For those who don't know, several years ago, Tom lost him home and almost all his possesions, then he lost his dog, and the most painful - he lost a son. He has had to endure a tremendous amount of pain and it is taking it's toll on him - loss of appetite and other things. That's why it's so important that you send a card AND leave a message to be included in the scrapbook of messages that will be given to him at the jam! Come on folks - help a fellow steeler................

Also, if you would to be included on the Jam list - email us!

I'm going to be at the Medicare Jam in Louisiana on that date too, wish I could be at both places at once. I can't seem to get enough Tom Morrell music. The playing and arrangements are the best.

This just in from Veteran Tophand Craig Chambers..

So far the following Tophands are going to be on hand to pay tribute to their "Top" Tophand: Craig Chambers, Leon Rausch, Buck Rheams, Tim Alexander, Johnny Case, Greg "Uncle Zilla" Hardy, Mac McCrae, Randy "Snuffy" Elmore, Mark Abbott, Bob Boatright, Tommy Allsup, Leon Chambers, Rich O'Brien and more to come!! I dare you to stay away.

On hand to provide the rhythm section and lead the "No holds barred swinginest" Jam session ever will be one of Fort Worth's most talented and especially well-loved (and utilized) musicians, Ronny Dale Shultz, just coming off a great run at Ruidoso where he played for 3 different bands including the Texas Playboys and Floyd Domino. He's lookin' forward to this event and encourages those who'd like to participate to sign up ahead of time at wolfjam@charter.net. The list is growing and we want to make sure everyone gets a chance to play.

For those of you coming in from out of town, I'd like to recommend the Comfort Inn Stockyards. Just mention that you're with the "Western Swing" group for a special rate. Call soon before they're booked up. (817) 834-8001. You can also check out www.longhornsaloon.net where you'll find recommendations for other motels close to the Stockyards.

This will be quite a special day for everyone, but especially Tom, and that's what it's all about. Remember, if you can't make it, we encourage you to post a special message for Tom here. Starla will compile all of them in a very special way and present them to Tom that evening. So in a way, you will be there. Until then.....keep swingin'!! Cathi

Again, I want to mention that this Friday my "Swingin' West" show will include at least an hour of Wolf in different settings as a birthday tribute to him. I will try to send a copy of the show to Wolf.
It will be heard in Connecticut on FM and world wide on the Internet by all who have a computer on my web site www.swinginwest.com from 1PM-4PM (eastern)

Starla and I will be there with her mother and father. You may have heard her father, Virgil Watts, on the Hall of Fame Fundraising show in St Louis a few years ago. He is a non-pedal player.

We also have four friends coming along! It's going to be a great day! We look forward to seeing everybody!

From Froggy, Bill Worden, I am posting this for him.

"Will be there with boots and guitar...and camera of course. I am not a member so couldn't post a note. Longhorn is where I first met Tommy and Time Warp in 1996. Been following him around ever since.

If you are attending the Tom Morrell Appreciation Jam and need a room - there's still a few rooms available at the
Comfort Inn Stockyards in Fort Worth. Your room rate will be $57 + tax. Normally it would be much more on a weekend.

Here's the address: Comfort Inn Stockyards, 4850 N. Freeway, Fort Worth, TX. 76137
Phone #: (817) 834-8001
There is a 24 hour cancellation policy. Remember to mention "western swing" to receive the discount.

Jimmy, I got my room for two adults at the Comfort Inn Stockyards for a total of $56.96 including tax. I used Travelocity.com to make my reservation rather than calling the hotel. The only catch is that you have to pay for your room when you make the reservation.

See you there.

Tom,

I just knew that you should've spent more money on food after we sent you that money a few years back after your house burnt down! Hope this finds you well. Always your recordings take pride of place in my collection.
