Eddie,

I'll vouch for you to your wife. I saw you getting tackled at least once and I don't know how many times I had to break up the huddle.

Many thanks to the RISGA and Marcia and Chuck for enviting Darlene and me to play the show. We had a great time, as usual. There were many great pickers to listen to and the backup band was stupendous.
Again, many thanks.

Another Fabulous RISGA Show!

Post by Jim Rice »

What a great show this year! Thanks Marcia, for all your hard work and making sure it happened. And thanks for allowing me to Emcee - it was fun.

Everyone was great, so it's hard to say which I liked the most. But boy, howdy, that Girl Howdy tore the place up! What energy, and great tunes. Tight sound and great steel right out in front. I hope they will come back.

Kudos to the backup band - Kerry Anderson and Andy Solberg on guitar, Chris Caruso on bass, with some help from Elaine Ellis, and JD Foster on the drums. These guys are fantastic and they played hard all day.

I want to give a special thanks to Jessie Caruso for learning and singing "He Thinks I Still Care" while I fumbled around on the steel behind her. It came out great... And was it my imagination or did the backup band do some backup vocals on the song?

Thanks Everyone - including the crowd!

A big thanks to Marcia and all the folks who organized the RISGA steel show. Girl Howdy was honored to be there and we had a blast! Eddie Cunningham and I did our best to represent the non-pedal steel (I know there are more of you non-pedalers out there -- hope you can make it next year!)

A Show to Top All Shows

Post by Roger Trahan »

I have to agree, this years show was better than all the others. All three bands played their hearts out and keep the audience in awe! The back up band out did themselves making all the players sound professional. Guest steel players were on the top of their game, I know I picked up a thing or two from each of them. Our members just keep getting sharper and better all the time. I'm going to have to really practice just to keep up with them. Many thanks to all that attended and all who helped keep things running smooth all day. A special thanks goes out to Marcia Rodriques, our president, without her a successful show like this would have been hard to produce. Thanks to all. God Bless Roger

Dream Come True

Post by manny escobar »

Congratulations, Marcia. I can`t believe it was 14 years ago when the late John Jiacoveli iniated the first R.I. Steel Guitar show at the German Club in Pawtucket, R.I. on May 5, 1996. The back-up band was Ray Dixon. The steel guitar performers were: Nicky Froncillo, Joe Ferri, Manny Escobar, Roger Trahan, and Andy Perry. Back then it was my dream to see Rhode Island have a steel guitar association, and Marcia Rodrigues has surpassed all expectations with this year`s show. RISGA is on a roll. We had a lot of fun at the Liberal Club in Fall River. Think about it. The show had local pickers, (except for John Demaille and Merle Record), and resulted in an exciting "premier" event.

The Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association has been going strong for over ten years and it must be doing something right!
I had the pleasure of serving as its president for two of those years and enjoyed the camaraderie and support of the members...something you can't put a price on.
I hosted a seminar at my house, ran the quarterly jams along with the help of vice president Elaine Ellis, helped enlist a stellar group of players for our shows from all over New England: Merle Record and Dana Flood from Maine, Chris Caruso (and now Bill Holbrook) from New Hampshire, John DeMaille from New York, Terry Sutton from Connecticut, Doug Beaumier and Sam Gibson from Massachusetts, and especially Jim Cohen from Philadelphia....as well as terrific players amongst the local members...the ones who supported the organization from the beginning.
All this under the name of the Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association! You didn't have to be from RI to be a member or a performer at our jams...just have a like minded attitude towards the promotion and sharing of the fascinating instrument that is the steel guitar.
What matters is who keeps this organization going...not who started it or what name it has...we have always opened our doors to everyone from all over the area and I am glad it continues to this day.
I myself, have gone on to other interests, but will always have a strong connection to RISGA, as I've watched it grow from just a few dedicated souls to the large, well run organization it has become today...all for one purpose...to promote and preserve the opportunity for the steel guitar to live on....for all.
Congrats to all for keeping on the tradition and for another succesful show!

Tony Palmer you are right it does not matter who started it as long as it keeps going it makes me happy. I asked to rejoin and they voted to leave things the way they are. That is fine with me no hard feelings.I thought it would be nice to support RISGA. I'm just happy it is still going and Marcia is doing a good Job of it.The same goes for NESGA I'm happy as long as they keep that Oganization going too. I can say I did not waist Anna and my time to organize these Steel Guitar Association's. The same for the Steel Guitar Jam we started in Greeneville TN. and now the Steel Guitar Jam we just had here in Clayton N.C. with more to follow. I'm happy and enjoy doing this and keep the Steel Guitar alive. All I can say is Good Luck and keep them going.
