Larry,
I got this bass when I was in high school. I ordered it right from Fender in Fullerton and it was delivered to the local railroad depot.
I passed the depot on the way to school one morning and the crate was standing out on the dock. :D
A year or so before this, I bought a T-8 Stringmaster from Fender in Fullerton and it was delivered to the railroad depot also:

In the early 80s I was doing some of my first recordings of my own stuff (demos) in a studio who's owner was a strat player. I happened upon a 1958 Strat in original case with brochure and tags that had never been played for $1000.
As I was born in 1958 I thought it was maybe meant to be. It was a lot of money to me at the time but I thought I could probably swing it.
So I asked the engineer at the studio what he thought and he said "is it a rosewood or maple fingerboard?" I replied rosewood. He said " nah, you don't want that. Hold out for a maple fretboard."
I've been waiting all these years for that 1958 Strat with a maple fretboard to show up......

Larry,
That Stringmaster is not original. I bought it new and played it until I got my fingertip Sho~Bud, then I sold it.
I had the opportunity a few years ago to buy it back and I jumped at it! By that time, however, it was looking pretty rough.
I completely disassembled it and refinished it in authentic Fender blonde.
It looks better now than when I sold it.

Larry,
No, that last one is a 4 neck, quad Stringmaster.
The 1st on was a triple neck Stringmaster.
Here's the rest of the family:

Actually Pete, they didn't make rosewood boards in 1958, that started in 1959! Maybe you remember the wrong year. Brian

My Strat. '57, with a '61 pickguard. It's a player, not a collector's piece. San Marino Blue. Same color as Caddy ElDorados converts in '57. NFS!
