Bill,
I wonder if this inspiration of this thread came from personal experience. Where you hoping to play at some show and were denied? Are you one of the mediocres who can't get in the basket (or out of the basket...honestly I lost track of the metaphor at this point.)
In other words, is this more a case of sour grapes than rotten eggs? |

I'm puzzled as to why, after Bill Hankey said that his initial metaphor was not a reference to the ISGC, the ISGC reference continues. 
I'm just trying to get this topic back onto its original track.

If members of this forum were forewarned to not disagree with ruling leaders, its values would plummet to levels not seen prior to the controlling regulation. Assuming a supporting role by objectively
examining where the mediocre players fit into the equation, should not turn into an agitation by promulgators of the current system of grading players, as if they were eggs in a basket. "Mediocre" players, play an important function in the elimination process of who's next in the long line of hopefuls, to be awarded the opportunity to perform at distinguished shows.
It becomes a major catastrophy for a player who is short a few licks, to give a performance that falls short of expectations. b0b, "Eggs In The Basket" are nothing more than the equivalent of a player's opportunities. |

Congratulations, Mr. McCloskey...you're now one of the misunderstanding many. Anyone can see that you didn't condemn Bill H., but you've been accused of that anyhow.
What he wants you to do now is coddle him, and tell him, "No no, Bill...don't go anywhere...we love your writings on this board and we are all sure that you are an A+ steel player...you are free continue questioning the proficiency and experience of anyone who disagrees with you, but we'll never question yours again!"

Bill, you seemed to have confused a question for a statement.
It seems logical to conclude that right after a major steel show, when a fellow seems to be saying that not enough less well known are allowed to play, that the reason for that post might be a defensive one because they themselves were not asked. Otherwise, it is hard to know what triggers the question.
Please let me know where I condemned you? One begins to think thou dos't protest too much.
Honestly Bill, this faux naivetΓ© you assume every time you are asked a direct question is tiresome and not just to me. My question was simple: were you denied a slot at steel show (y/n) and was that the inspiration for your post (y/n).
It doesn't get much simpler than that.
And I would add, you can hardly fault the question when you yourself keep floating your better system of playing and yet have nothing tangible to show for it that anyone can listen to.

I rarely read your posts because you have done a very good job of defining yourself as someone who get simple satisfaction from taking up a lot of column space. I think you have even convinced yourself that your clouded, cluttered and clumsy writing style gives importance, if not credence, to what you write.
That is fine.
I am guessing that you try do do the same when you talk at, or pontificate with, others. I suspect that you convince yourself that because listeners, and those not listening anymore, don't spar with you in your verbal diatribes, you are tied for the title of Most Interesting Man in the World.
When you write, I suspect you expect, but get a somewhat different reaction. Yet you persist in making the simplest statement a ball of confusion trying to limit dissenting opinion.
That is the same tactic used by Lancelot Link Secret Chimp.

| I'm not leavin' any too soon guys, by ridin' off into the sunset - The mass confusion is mounting in the world over. Millions of questions unanswered, as to where an infant nation comprised of such things as hospitals charging by the minute for services, put together autos costing over $50,000, respectable homes easily exceeding over $500,000, spread over a wide area, (no exceptions), antique dealers broadcasting that family heirlooms are invaluable, some exceeding millions of dollars, etc. Well I can tell you for sure, I'm in a hesitant mood while trying to decide if the iron in the forge is hot enough to strike. This includes observing the massive wasting of commodities in and out of the homes. This, before loading my steel in the old horse drawn wagon and heading for the gold in "dem" hills. Most of the gold in in the world has yet to be discovered. Salmonella scares have all but ruined my taste for eggs. I'm still concerned about the mad cow, and manufactured recalls. So ease up please on all this other nonsense about who's who in the world of steel guitar. It's doubtful if we'll ever know. Included in the mad scramble to get the best seats to events, is that time puts a lame leg on those in the front line who rush ahead of mediocrity. |

I don't believe that you've made your positionings known on many issues. It's an immediate contrast to your special demands. You seem to be presenting me with an air of supremacy by demanding that I remain with the topic. If you have the means to present the members with a Jones, Owens, or Price country tune, you can bet that I'll get to crackin'. I've already expressed how to avoid losing everthing. Avoiding gambling, imbibing, placing all your eggs in one basket, all of those, are the things that could take you down. More than ever before, I'd appreciate listening to how far you've come on the steel guitar. I'll not hold my breath. |
