Pedal Steel
Hi David, I have owned a Rus-Ler U12 for the last twenty five years or so.It has seven pedals and five knee levers, two of then are vertical levers. It has a Flynn changer and the fretboard has the steer head and pistols and spurs on it. It was made in 1976 and the number of it is 0143,made in Phoenix i believe. It is heavy.

The second and eleventh strings are attached to the two phillips head srews at the front of the tuning pegs in picture three and they are adjusted at the top (in the slot) in picture four using the two Allen screws above the nylon tuners.chris ivey wrote:wha?? 12 strings and only 10 tuning pegs...? confusing...please explain..

Brian: Wow! That IS different! I've never seen anything like that either. Cool guitar, thanks for posting. I had been wondering about the Flynn changer.Does anyone know what made so unique? I've heard it called "backwards".It was different enough he got a patent on it. Like the fretboard, too. It makes more sense for "Rus-Ler" than roses. Anyone know which was "official" or were both used at different times?

Flynn / RusLer 12 String
Here is the guitar that the late Harold Flynn built for me in 1990. I played it on a show here in Pigeon Forge for several years. Great sounding guitar. I think it has a lot of rusler parts, pedals etc. Very heavy guitar. He built me two cases for it.
I play Zane Becks tuning. I have 2 keyless 12 string BMI's I also have a Sierra U12.

I picked a S-12 Rusler last summer & will be selling it this summer to buy a light guitar to take back to Beijing. Love the Rusler but it is a wee bit on the heavy side for me and I need the funds. Sounds good and reminds me of a 1950 USA automobile.
Here are the links to the guitar with photos:

In 1977 I was stationed at 29 Palms and knew a young Marine. His name was JD I believe; it was a long time ago. He said the maker of Rus-Ler was his uncle in Phoenix.Fred Martin wrote: I worked with one of Russ's nephews in Alpine, Az and he helped in the shop in Phx. Mostly talked about the hookers and other folks coming in to the shop to visit. Sort of a social hub I guess. He thought Russ moved to Missouri or Arkansas and might have got himself kilt back there, I dont know. .
