"Going Up Yonder!" Bishop R. P. Hall

Post by Bishop Ronnie P Hall »

Hello, to all who might be listening in!
This is a rendering of an old gospel standard, updated to the sacred steel stylings that I try to play. There is a lot of culture in the background of it`s composition, which I dont have the time, nor effort to explain, at this time, however, I hope that you just enjoy the melody.
Be Blessed! :)

Wow, Bishop Ronnie, if i keep this up, you're going to say "Not that guy again". Your phrasing and the
emotion that drips from your playing just lifts me.
I like the open string pull offs and especially the alternating open and noted things you are doing.
Just masterful technique.

I agree with Clyde. The sound of the guitar is perfect for the style too.

:D

I like the videos too. It has that " let's switch on the room light, the amp and the pc webcam, and play" look to it!

Great.

I watch and enjoy them all.

I can see Bishop Hall taking the main stage at the Cambridge folk festival and stealing the show.

Excellent job Ron and that is a beautiful melody and the tone of your guitar sounds great as always...I like the harmonics you did at the ending. Keep up the great work my friend and God Bless.

Hey Bro Clyde (Mattocks)
I`m so sorry that I am late in responding to your compliment. Please accept my apology, I cant seem to keep up anymore, but I`ll keep trying.
My friend, you can be "that guy again" as much as you please. Without the input of our constituants in what we do, none of us would know how we are doing. So please keep on being that guy!!! It is alright with me anytime!!! :D
My playing style,(I guess I have a style ) Is the only thing I`ve known for the last 57-58 years. I trust that somebody appreciates it, it`s all I got!!!
Thanks for the encouragement! Be Blessed!

Hi Dave, (Hartley)
For a guy with your obvious talent, who took a little time out to listen to my small hobbiest efforts, has certainly inspired me, all the more in my attempts to try to do my best. Thanks much my friend, :)

Hey John!!! (McGlothlin)
My much valued friend! I`m sorry I`m late in response. I dont know how all you guys keep up in responding, to all of the compliments, and comments. I guess, I`ll just have to try harder!
You know sometimes, as you have spoken of, and so have others about how the "tone" is this, or the tone is that..., for me, I just think I just have dumb luck. I just play the best I can,(even if it does sometimes sounds like somebody choking a cat?) Anyway, as always, thanks so much for your encouragement. It means much! Be blessed my friend!

Hi Susan!!! :D (Alcorn)
I am deeply honored, and encouraged by your compliment, and certainly inspired by your body of work, and display of such God given talent. I thank you for looking in on me, (such as I am) and giving me the inspiration to keep trying, (as I have been, :) ) to do the best that I can. Be blessed, my dear friend,

I love it. One of the things I like about your style is that you recreate the nuances of the human voice and immediately recognise where you need to slide into and out of notes, rather than just play them "plain". :D

Hi Alan (Brookes)!
You know, I have been asked how do you "do" that "thing" that sounds like someone singing, or a horn blowing and etc. I wished I knew!!! All I have ever done, was to just let it come out. I am just happy it does! I just hope that folk just keep enjoying it. Thanks again my friend!

You do it without thinking. That's the talent of it all.

If you think about it, imagine a touch typist who can rattle off 130 w.p.m. Ask him/her where the letter k is on the typewriter and he/she has to think about it. As an accountant, who has been practising for 45 yrs, I rattle off numbers on the adding machine at breakneck speed, but if you were to ask me where the number 5 is I would have to think about it.

Proficiency on any instrument is being able to go to the note(s)you want by gut-feel, just as you would on a typewriter when typing a letter, by instinct.

You have that instinct.
That's what separates the wannabees from the performers...

Hi Al (Brookes)
Thanks for the encouragement my friend.
I dont know, and I dont think I ever will, because for me, it all comes from the heart, good or bad! I just do the best I can.
Thanks again my friend!
