Boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!! You should have been there!! Seven beautiful steels, top of the line lead guitar, a set of knock-out drums, and a bass guitar that won't quit! Roy Rosetta, there were 3 steels where you sat and the rest of the band was positioned as usual. Then there was an array of tasty, scruptous refreshments over by the kitchen door. I'm sure, Fred, you can see it all now! One of the best kept secrets of the OzSGA was revealed. Leonard Robertson brought in his steel guitar and played every song that came around and played the melody like it should be played. Then his agent, Bill Myrick, coaxed him to sing, and boy, did he sing! Ed Javner, a student of the steel for only 3 years was not out-done. He played every song. I wish I could have said that about myself. I had to sit-out on a few songs. Something else that we had in our club was a man that played a push-pull Emmons steel and his name is Ted Emmons. Of course when you can't get Buddy Emmons, we've got Ted Emmons. Now he plays bass guitar with a professional group. Mr. Bob Carden was not to be out done. I think he knows a million tunes and he knows them well. I got to sit next to Mr. Larry Garrett, from Siloam Springs, and he played his Sho-Bud and it sounded so pretty. We sure was entertained by none other than our president, Mr. Terry Bethel. And he's already shown that G2 who's boss! Man, can he play!!! Then Dino Strunk amazed us all with "Workin' Man Blues". Both with voice and superb expertise on his lead guitar! And then Mr. Buddy Lewis, who I think is one of the best bass players I've heard, played that bass with authority and sang with clarity and enthusiasm! Mr. Ted Emmons gave us a concert with 3 back to back Buck Owen's songs and got a thunderous applause! Now in the center of it all was the drummer man, Mr. Chuck Landry, who was all arms and legs. He kept the beat to precision and was a real treat to watch. What a Drummer!!! Our photographer, Mr. Bill Myrick, caught all this afternoon of excitement and we'll continue getting to relive the fun through his photo book of memories!! Like I said, "you should have been there." See you in October!!!! Same time, same place, same station!!

Wow !!! Can Jerry write an article or what ???? -
He has one weakness in his write ups however-- he's just too humble. He had his Emmons LeGrand tuned perfectly and was playing some fine music , Miss Eva commented on the way home about how well he played.
I have a few pictures I'll post that may lend a little more insite into the fun afternoon but I want to comment on a couple of things first ; It amazes me how some of the finest professional players in the world will take time to come out and add they support and talents to our little jam projects and appear to be having a great time doing it !
Russ Burns (our usual jam drummer) was not available so Mel Tillis' super drummer of some 15 or more years, Chuck Landry, came out and I think he enjoyed the afternoon very much and thanks Chuck, for some tips you passed on to us about counting off the songs.
Of coarse Dino Strunk, a lead player and singer deluxe, always comes by whenever he can and makes things run smoothly with some of the greatest guitar work ever, and I'm sure he could use the afternoon as rest with his busy schedule but he too seems to enjoy it very much !! This sets the greats apart--IMHO.
Our Vice President, Charles Steichen, was away on a trip --we missed he and Rose Mary very much.
Association Chaplain Jerry Hanley welcomed everyone and opened the activities with prayer
A super back up band--Dino Strunk, Chuck Landry and Buddy Lewis. Buddy also provides the great sound system.

The boss man himself, "Americas' favorite cowboy errrrr I mean steel player" Terry Bethel.
Steve Melchi takes over the controls on Ted's Emmons and away they go on the Buck Owens medley Jerry referred to as a "concert". Steve's a Zum player but he and that Emmons got along just fine.
Some folks don't realize Dino does fine vocals as well as guitar work that you can't believe. Watch for him on the staff band next month in St. Louis.
One of the members carries this secret formula on his pack seat. I don't know what it means - maybe you could find out more at wwwterrywhatzthat???? - 
Terry presents an award plaque to Leonard Robertson for outstanding service and contributions to the association.
Our new found helper Ryan Kohut doing his usual great job.
A great afternoon was enjoyed by all--watch for Jerry announcing our October jam as time approaches.

Thanks, Bill, for the pictorial report about the jam! The pictures are superb and your captions are right to the point! Thanks for the kind words about my playing. I needed that!!!! They say, "one picture's worth a thousand words". Just think how many words you just spoke with those great pictures!!

Sure wish we could have been there. Looks like you really had a great time and had some really great steel players on the jam. Jerry, you steel guys just hold down my spot on the stage, but I'll want it back next July, heck, you never know about Barbara and I, we might get a chance to get up there even sooner than July.  . You sure wern't short on great players in the band...wow... Dino, Chuck and Buddy, doesn't get much better than that, again wish we could have been there.

Roy, you said a mouth full when you talked about the band. They were superb!!! I'm no expert at saying who's best when it comes to playing drums, but our faithful drummer, Russ Burns, does a great job, too!!
And Eddie, your playing is professional and so precise, so pretty. I'm sure we missed you more than you missed us!! Wish you could have been there! And Larry, how dare you to say that I'm so gluttonous that I always get to the head of the line. But the truth hurts, so guess I'd better take it on the chin! We sure missed you and wish you could have been here!

Sounds like you guys had FUN! Sorry I couldnt make it. Thought I might be able to swing that way on my way to Minnesota but it didnt work out! KEEP PLAYIN THAT GREAT MUSIC!
