Deep South Steel Guitar-Gulfport, Ms.

Post by Bill Stafford »

The South is RISING AGAIN! Katrina just gave us more purpose to our music, folks.
October 1st will see and hear the DSSGA playing, but not as usual, at the VFW on Dedeaux Rd here in Gulfport, Mississippi.
The building is being occupied by the Army Corp of Engineers presently. Our nice big stage is now a bed room for these hard working men and women. We will set up in the lounge area and make do to try to raise a few dollars for the VFW to purchase meat and taters to feed these wonderful folks.
Bob Saxton and Billy Carr have agreed to be here along with most all of our members here in this area who can manage transportation.(Gasoline is available now). Mike Brewer will set up his new EXCEL and wow us all with those great Chalker chords and technique of the big band sounds he can play so well.
All the motel rooms on the coast are filled with the volunteer workers.
Our program will not be a structured one this time-just who ever is able to show up will be hooked up. My tel. line is not reliable yet so I may be off line from time to time. No need to try and contact me if you can make it-just show up and we will be thankful so very much. Good cause and we need to help out in all we can do here. Thanks to all. DSSGA is down, but not OUT!

Thanks to all you wonderful folks! Joe and Sharon-it was sure great to have seen you two there in St. Louis. That weekend was a delight- as it took us away from all the devastation here in my home town.
Our show this coming Sat. will be at the standard place, but the normality is certainely different. lol
Our VFW has been turned into a large bunk room with the first responder workers. We want to give them some pretty music and all the money donated to us will be given to the VFW to help feed these great people some hot food and cold drinks.
Jeff, you will be missed a bunch. Thanks for all your support in the past.
Billy Carr, Danny Harrell, can always count on you when the going gets tough. Thanks so much.
The great Bob Saxton will be here also-along with most all of our local players so we will enjoy the day away from all our troubles for one afternoon and evening. I want to personally thank all the friends who have been concerned for our welfare. It was so very surprising to see just how much and many were concerned. Very humbled by all of this and my heart is so full of all friends. You are all so very special!
We will start our music at high noon this Sat. Oct 1st. We will not be on our big stage but we will make out just fine and our music will be full of hearts and souls.
thanks,
Bill Stafford

Hey all you deep-south pickers,

We had planned on being there but our medical appointments made us miss it by four days. Have a great time and we will hope to catch one of your shows later.
