I am re-stringing my 26" 1953 Fender Stringmaster, and I assume I need slightly different guages than those suggested for most steels, which likely are 22 to 24 inches in scale. Any ideas or sites which are scale length specific? I`m using Leon Mcauliffes E13+A6
E 13
E C# B G# F# D G# E
A 6
E C# A F# E C# A F#
Any science to which neck gets which tuning? Front or Back for A6?
Thanks,
Take it away Leon!!! |

How's it strung currently? Is that convenient for you? I'd use the same tunings on the same necks if that works for you; if not, switch 'em around.
I can't help you with the scale length issue. I'd try a set of strings designed for the tuning without worrying about the scale length, then see if that works. If it doesn't, switch to heavier strings. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

I have a single neck 26" that I use A6 on and I use Scottys A6 semi flats. The gauges seem perfect for the long scale. Nice tension on them. _________________ www.deluxe34.com lap steel stands, Clinesmith, Gibson Console Grande, Northwesterns, The Best Westerns

I just bought a 53 stringmaster D6 myself. I used the string guages per Rick Alexander's site. |

Hi Steve, I've got a 55' T-8 Stringmaster long scale and I put some of Herb Remington's signature Jagwire strings on it bought right here on the forum. They work great. Click Here |
