Sounds great. Anyone now what effect it is on the steel. I heard the Big "E" used it at one of his live albums.

Sounds to me like and envelope filter or possibly a wah pedal with an aggressive but short attack. You can get that sound with either one of these... but most likely the envelope filter.

It reminds me of the tone I used to get from a Boss “T-Wah”.

The effect is an auto wah. There are several brands available...The Boss brand is really clean and simple to use.....Paul

A couple months ago, Dan Tyack posted some clips of him and Bobby Black in a thread called "Guess the mystery steel players." He didn't post this recording, but I wonder if this is Dan and Bobby, and if it was recorded at the same time as the ones he posted...sounds a bit like it to me.

Thanks Paul,

It's really a nice effect for some licks. Do you also used it in the past or maybe now. I find a song from Buddy "Witches Brew". Very old but I think it's the same effect. Wow!

It sounds like an MXR Envelope Filter to me. I have auto wah in my Boss GX-700, but it's not the same. The envelope filter gives a wah based on attack, while an auto wah cycles on a timer.

I'm looking for a replacement for my MXR, so I hope whoever did this will fess up and tell us what he used.

The Q-Tron by Electroharmonix will for sure get you the sound and its got great controls to customize the sensitivity, depth, etc.
Its one of the more expensive envelope filters out there, but the tone and shaping abilities are pretty much good as it gets.
