Anyone using Peavey Vypyr amps for lap steel?

Steel guitar amplifiers, effects, etc.

Anyone using Peavey Vypyr amps for lap steel?

Post by Travis Hillis »

My apologies if this should be in electronics...

When I got my Powerslide I got a Peavey Vypyr 15 amp for it. I know it's not what you would call a steel amp, and at first I struggled to find a steely tone. However, with some tweaking of the many, many, presets this thing sounds great, both clean and dirty.

I’m curious, how many others have used these?
Feel free to share your presets :D

I have been using a Vypyr 15 with my Dynalap for a year or so now. I like it. My settings are:

Dlx amp
Bypass effect
Pregain 5-6
Low 4-5
Mid 4-5
High 5
post gain 4

Feedback 1
Level 1
reverb 4-5

For reference the lowest LED setting is one so four would be the 12:00 position.

What settings are you using?

Peavey TransTube Envoy 110. Not as many presets and a lot less tweaking!

lol I plan on that to be my next amp. That or a more powerfull vypyr.

By the way, I read in a musicians friend catalogue that the Vypyr 15 can run 4 effects at a time. I cant figure out how to do it. Am I missing something or is this anothr typo by musicians friend?
Anyone know?

I don't see anything in the Vypyr 15 manual available online from Peavey.com that indicates how to run four effects at once.

That seems like a lot of amplifier for the price.

How does the 8 inch speaker sound? Have you tried playing with a band at all, or is this your "bedroom" amp?

Bedroom amp I guess. I'm no expert considering this is my first electric rig. With that said the speaker sounds pretty durn good. It has good volume and dosnt seem to break up to easily. I love it and am in no hurry to get another amp. :D
