NY State Steel Jam..???

Post by Bob Carlucci »

Just running this up the flagpole.. I would like to host an intimate steel guitar jam,"get together" here in lovely Candor NY, Fingerlakes region.. Now, I realize I am pretty far out for a lot of guys, but there are several guys within a few hours.

It would be on a Sunday about 12-4 or 5 possibly late sept/early oct. I have a nice size log home, and we could certainly find enough room for 5 or 6 guys to set thier steels up. I've never done anything like this, so I need any and all advice I can get.. By the way, I'll even cook a world class Italian meal.. If you would like to come by, trade licks, stories, set ups etc, with a few other players in a very nice fall setting please email me.. If it looks like its going to fly, I'll let everyone know the particulars.... bob

Bob,

I'd be interested, too, It's a bit of a haul for me, but what the heck. Farm country in NY in the fall? Good Italian food? Good company? Good music? Did I miss anything?

Worth the trip to me.

BTW, what's the latest status with you and getting to the P.S.G.A show[s] in November?

Chip... still not sure... I can't make the drive to conn. as I won't be getting in until about 3-3:30 am that Sun morning... If I can hook up with a few guys from somewhere around here, I'll certainly be there.. there's lots of time and I'm sure I'll be able to bum a ride/share fuel costs etc.

btw,,If you are crazy enough to drive here from Mass, I'd love to have you here for this little steel guitar gathering!...

Anyone who would like to get together here with us, please email me so I can get everyone's email address and I'll get the date and time set for certain. bob<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Bob Carlucci on 26 August 2005 at 05:15 AM.]</p></FONT>

Bob,

Count me in. My van is set up so I just put the steel in and lash her down, with protective covering, right out of my trailer,
[mobile home for you yuppies], and into the van.
I'll throw in my Martin 6-string,
in case this gaterhing needs some, ugh, vocals; and the 12-string Ricker, in case some birds are around; hey...for laughs.

I am thinking about Sept 25... all interested ,let me know ASAP.. [BY EMAIL!!!] I have already replied to several guys about this date... We can certainly change it, but I WILL need to know how many guys WILL be here for sure, as I need to know how much seating, food, etc.. again, this will be a more "intimate" type of jam .. showing off our best playing to one another, trading licks, set ups, copedents, tones, ideas, maybe playing a few tunes with a bass and guitar backup, and some vocals..[I'll do some singing.. bring your barf bag!!] It won't be loud, just practice volume.. a small practice amp is fine.. I'll have a few larger Fender amps set up too.. We can only do so much in a living room setting, but I'm sure we'll have a great time sharing a few pleasant hours, our knowledge, a few laughs, and a meal. I'd like to have solid yes or no answers about mid sept so I can adjust accordingly[ I hope I don't screw this up!]... bob<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Bob Carlucci on 28 August 2005 at 12:09 PM.]</p></FONT><font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Bob Carlucci on 28 August 2005 at 05:45 PM.]</p></FONT>

Bob,

I don't see how it could be anything but fun with you doing it...I seriously doubt that you could screw it up. Too bad I'm way out here on the left coast...sounds like a blast.

Hey Bob,
I'm a new member from Rochester and I'm very pleasently surprised to find there are a good number of steelers in the finger lakes region. I can't make 9/25, but am very much interested in future get togethers. Is the guy that sat in with Commander Cody at The Montage Grill an SGF member?

Two of the best steel guitarists in the world live in Rochester, NY: Chuck Campbell and Darrick Campbell. You guys should invite them. If they can play before the King of Morocco, it seems like they should be able to play in Upstate NY.

Way to go Bob..and for all participants, may I remind you of what I learned while 'in the service'--NEVER speak ill of the cook's renditions..be cautious near the cauldron. Image JZ
