Telecaster stolen

Post by John Scanlon »

Already posted this under Music, but I see that this is an appropriate sub-forum in which to report thefts, too, and such announcements probably reach a wider audience here, so please excuse the re-run.

Sad to report my red double-bound Telecaster (about '87, MIJ, double-bound, brass saddles, rosewood 'board, with an "A-" serial number on bridgeplate only) was stolen on June 24 from a friend's house here in Jackson, MS, as well as his black-out FrankenStrat with 3 P-90s.

Though I had Lollars in it, it had a standard pickup configuration. Technically, I think it was known as a "Custom Telecaster," (as opposed to a "Telecaster Custom," which has a humbucker in the neck). However, now they're all known as '62 RIs it seems after the American re-launch a few years ago.

We've launched a Facebook campaign, spread the words to our local musician buddies, and are contacting pawn shops and music stores in the area. We're also filing a report through the PD.

Anyone who's had gear stolen in the past have any other advice on how to go about searching for it?

Heartbreaking news.

Might post pics and info on the local Craig's List.

I would also monitor Craig's List and Ebay.

Good Luck

How to find a stolen instrument..

Post by Ivan Goldstein »

I recovered some stolen bicycles in my town by posting flyers saying that " I buy bicycles". I not only recovered mine but was able to report a couple of other obvious ones to the police. Mine had been traded to someone and then he tried to sell them to me. Good luck!!!

Stolen Telecaster

John, You might join the telecaster forum (it's free) and report it to them. You will have a lot of members looking for it for you. Fred

Appreciate the words. The "I buy guitars" flyer is a great idea. May have to try that. I've been watching Craig's List and eBay like a hawk. I've always thought about joining the Tele forum, but have just remained an outsider looking in, as I frequently read posts there. That's a good idea, too, though it seems odd to join it now, when I'm without a Tele.
