As of a couple of months ago it was David Korach, a great player and great guy.
I assume he's still with her., but I haven't seen them since.

Hey Stephen,

Friday July 23 at Rodeo Club.
Saturday July 24 at Garlic Festival.

Unfortunately, the Friday gig I can't make it because I am playing at the American Legion. Even though we end at 9:30, I don't want to leave my equipment in my car at that club.

So, I will have to go to the Garlic Festival on Saturday. She plays at noon.

You will enjoy the show! Sunny and her husband Brandon are good pals of mine, and the girl has a great personality and exudes it. She's a gorgeous woman, sharp as a tack, and "one of the guys."

She's East Texas all the way. Her voice reminds me of a cross between Jeannie C. Riley and Connie Cato, and she writes some good material.

Also her bassist, Cody Martin, was my bandmate for two years and is a top-shelf human and musician also. Please say "hey" to them for me. I miss them.

I just watched the video of her song "If I Could" from the CD titled "Heartbreaker's Hall of Fame", and there is some outstanding steel work on there. Does anyone know who did the studio work for that release?

Hi Richard. Thanks for your interest in Sunny. I hope you do make it out to the garlic festival, and I hope you'll come say "hi." I always enjoy talking with other steel players out on the road. I'm having a great time working with Sunny. Her music features the steel quite a bit. As Herb said above, she is a wonderful person to work for, and she is the real deal. She writes all of her songs, and sings them beautifully.

Michael, that was Tommy Detamore playing steel on the 1st album, and learning his licks on "If I Could" was quite a task!

David, it was great to hear and see you play last Thursday in Denton. My wife said it was the first time you played with that paticular band. Sure couldn't tell it you did a great job. Sorry I didn't make it over to talk with you. I will catch you next time. I'm sure that short crazy brunett talked enough for the both of us. lol Catch ya later.

David has been over to the house a couple of times with his steel (a few weeks ago) and we really enjoyed being "mad scientists" on our guitars in those two visits. We had a great time and I'm looking forward to our next evening of twin-steeling. He has a beautiful Mullen Royal Precision that sounds great and it's a lot of fun playing twin steel with him.

David, please pass on my best to Varnadeaux (sp?) at your next gig. Smile I know you guys are going to have a blast working together.

Roy, Actually that wasn't my first night with Sunny, but it was the first night with the new lineup of the band.

Hey Jim! David Varnado and I are having a blast. It's sure nice to get to work with such a great fiddle player. The whole band is sounding really good, and we're all excited about the upcoming California run. I'll be calling you when I get back to Texas so that we can get together again.

Wow, I sure had David Varnado's last name spelled incorrectly. Embarassed Sure glad to hear y'all are having a great time. I know I sure enjoyed working with him. He's a fine fiddle player.

Found this on YouTube and it says it was uploaded 2 days ago ...

Is this the band's new configuration? Definitely looking forward to our next session of jamming when y'all get back. Smile

By the way, that gig Richard mentioned ... Friday July 23 at Rodeo Club. Is that by chance the Rodeo Exchange over in Ft Worth?

Thanks for the plug Arty! It was a pleasure getting to work with you and the guys. It's always good to hear you play, and visit with you guys.

Jim - That is the new lineup, at one of the shows we played with Kevin Fowler. Sound is pretty bad on that clip. Hopefully we'll get some better ones up soon!

PS if any of you get the chance you should go see Sunny Sweeny, and David, while they're here in Cal

I was hoping Sunny would be playing north of San Francisco, but no dice.

I "retired" from the Garlic Festival many years ago, no thanks!

Well I went to Club Rodeo tonight to see David and Sunny, and cept for one thing, it was fine...

that one thing being, no David...acoustic set, three guitars, brittle mix, really tight harmonies though. tend to like the ole texas sunny more than the new nasville sunny....seems her songwriting has changed considerably since moving to Nashville...

There was some hat du jour headlining....

Well...... I dragged my butt out to the Garlic Festival too see Sunny, and... well..... how do I put this.....

SHE WAS AWESOME. As Herb said, she is gorgeous, a great singer, and has a real down home personality. My biggest problem was that when they stopped playing, I found myself wanting more. I easily could have listened another 2 hours.

David did a great job. That Mullen he has is one of the prettiest guitars I have ever seen. It was really nice getting to meet and talk with David after the show. What a class act he is.

As usual these days, the P.A. was, well... you all know. The first couple of songs, all you could really hear was the bass, a little of Sunny, and the guitar player, and David would creep in the mix a little. The first song didn't even have the drums coming out the mains. I went with a bass player I work a lot with, and he went up to the sound man and told him, and believe it or not, he cranked the bass down a little, brought the steel and vocals up. I wish they would have had the sound man that was working the Amphitheater at the other end of the festival. When we first got there, there was a 10 piece funk/rock band playing, and that guy had the sound dialed in to perfection. Well, so much for the sound guys.

Mark. I know how you feel about the Garlic Festival. It's a real pain in the ass. I don't think I would make the trip from where you are to Gilroy.

Sorry to ramble on here. Go see Sunny if you get a chance.

Hey Stephen, sorry about the Rodeo Club date. I guess I should have posted a note here about that show being a scaled down acoustic performance. I was actually there, just not on stage that night.

Richard: Thanks again for coming out to the Garlic festival, it was great to meet you. The crowd and the heat were a bit much to deal with, but it was still a fun show for us.
