I saw Poco, NRPS and Pure Prairie League a few years back - this song was perhaps the finest Poco offered that night. Rusty Young can still play steel, but apparently chooses to do so rarely. Buddy Cage was positively lame that night, although he certainly still has chops. I did not even recognize PANAMA RED when it started, as Buddy laid out much of the song. Pure Prairie League featured some steel, but as with most of these bands that I loved so dearly when I was learning steel in the '70s, they need to rest on their laurels. These bands, Commander Cody - they all made their mark. What they accomplished back then was fresh, new, exciting. Rehashing it endlessly, insipidly? - might as well play Holiday Inn lounges. I still return to this music on occasion; the original stuff generally ages fairly well. Nice to hear this song again.
