Just wanted to say thanks on a special thread to Bob Saxton and Gary Granger for the super job they gave us at our show here in Gulfport this past Saturday. Two unique stylists on their instruments. I tried my best to have a program just with those two guitarists to break up the monotony of the steel guitar sounds of all afternoon and evening. We had so many great steel players that the guitar duo came later in the evening and it was a terrific finale to our program. Bob and Gary really performed flawlessly all afternoon and especially on their part of the program. Thanks to both of these great musicians for keeping us all straight all day and night. It was a big honor for all of us here to hear the Bob and Gary Guitar Duo. Hope we can do it again in the future.(And we could fill up another thread on the talents of Beau Thomas-another time and soon for this violinist. One terrific performer. Herby Wallace would love this young man. Like Alex Depew-not one note ever off key and all notes so warm and good).

Bill, about 3 years ago (next to last year it was held) Bobbe told me he would be delighted to come to the Mobile show if someone would invite him. I got no response from mentioning that to them at that time. Bobbe said hell, I dont even need any money to come down there. Things may have changed on that subject so forget I said it, but I believe he was sincere about wanting to come to this area. |

Yes, Bob Saxton is on several of my CDs, a wonderful player. A very good friend for 30 years. I admire him greatly.
Just finished playing the "Chet Atkins Appreciation Society" shows with Bob.
A true country gentelman.

Bob informed me that he will be on the Mississippi Musician's Hall of Fame Show coming up soon and will probably open that show for them in the Meridian area. Wish I had more information about the time, place etc. Maybe someone will post the data.
This week, the US Air Force is flying Bob to Alaska to warm up all those in that area for a few days. Great player and he is most appreciated here in Gulfport.
During his performance with another great guitar player, Gary Granger-out of Louisiana, it was like having Chet Atkins and Les Paul on one side of the stage and Herb Ellis , Joe Pass and Wes Montgomery on the other. What a duo set Bob and Gary gave us. Great talents and a greater musical experience for all of us in attendance. (You can listen in to www.krvs.org this morning at 11 AM and hear Gary in a live broadcast.)

You are right about Mr. Saxton, guys! He and Gary teamed up on "Days of Wine and Roses." I've never heard an arrangement like that with only two guitars. Gary should be moving into Memphis this week. Get his new address, Bill. We want him back in Gulfport with Bob.

Bill, let me post a reply to you. First I agree with all you have said about Bob. One week ago last evening I gave a concert in
Clinton, MS (my home) featuring songs from my new CD (all of which I wrote). I was highly honored that Bob drove up from Laurel to be with us. He was first with the cheerful responses. Many in the state and beyond will also remember Skeets McWilliams. He also was present making for an exciting evening for me.
Now about the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame. If you will go to www.msmusic.org
then bring up concerts you will have all the information. The event will be held in
Vicksburg. Dr. James Brewer, also a long time friend, is the prime mover in this endeavor. When you bring up the schedule you will learn about the week long activity and note when Saxton will perform.
Bill, I will be teaching two days each week at William Carey College in Gulfport beginning next week. Hope to see you.

Bill, I am so glad you are in touch with Bob Saxton. This guy has so much talent and all of it is on immediate recall. During a recent family reunion, Grace Stafford-a vocalist of opera classic structure-was asked to sing "Ava Maria". Bob gave her the proper music background and this was a song that literally caused everyone to drop what they were doing, stop what they were talking about, and just listen to something very heavenly. Wish I could have recorded that. Just did not know that would happen. Bob is one of the very best in the business and we are most fortunate to have him back home in Mississippi and on our DSSGA program and band stand.
Call me and come visit when you are here on the coast.
