I agree. It's still collectible and is one of the best steels of all time. It's been on Ebay for quite awhile. I think it was originally listed with a starting bid of $1800.
I have one just like that with all the original tuners. I wouldn't sell it for twice that price. It's got the moan they talk about. This photo doesn't do it justice.

That's a beaut, Richard! Almost as stunning as the minty 1st year Jerry Byrd showed us one morning, just before selling it to a student for $500! Said he could have gotten 10Gs for it in Japan. That sucker equaled the vision of a great/early Gibson 'Black Beauty', the kind you just don't get to see but maybe once in a lifetime.
The moan.
I've heard much of this, and rarely can it be witnessed on record or in person.
Mostly comes from the hands, but some Ricks do have it in spades, some need it coaxed out, and some don't have it at all it seems. Odd birds...

Oh, man - I agree! I got my first a couple weeks ago, and I'm over the moon. I was surprised what a BIG and sweet sound came out of this old instrument when I plugged it in. I think I'm in love!
