Gotta jump in here and also say somthing nice about Jeff Blackwell. This guy has a big booming voice, just made for the airways. We are so proud to have him on board with us in Gulfport. I just had the opportunity to listen to the spot (interview) he did on Bill Stafford for Steel Radio. Man !!!! If you can't be at the show, then listen to steel radio Friday, Aug 5th for this interview.

Yep on the keeping things straight when there is gumbo around. I'm gonna bring 2 of those arm splints and put them on Mike Hoover so he can't bend his elbow. At least till I get through the line.

Those who haven't seen it, Jr. Martin will be playing his gold plated steel at the show. I know Bill already said this but I just wanted to remind everyone. This is a sight to behold.

Ok,,,,,,,,, R.J. I've done took ole Larry Moore to the "How To Say It School". Now it's your turn. It's Gonna Be A Good-UN !!! Oh well, folks,,,, don't forget the catering will be done by R.J. and crew the day of the show and if you have any doubts about the good food from the Fish Camp,,,,, erase them. Them folks know how to put the feed bag on you.

Really looking forward to a great time with all. Please remember to drive safe and bring a bunch with you.

Contain yourselves guys. Enough for all and especially the music-Louisiana music in Mississippi fais-do.(If we here in Mississippi are allowed to use that Cajun party term). Regardless, we will show much appreciation to all these great Louisiana pickers, families, fans and friends.
And just to mention another great talent to wet the music whistles, "... you ain't heard nothing yet 'till you hear Gary Granger on his lead guitar". Plays steel the same way too. Want to get Gary and Bob to put on a special guitar program for the steel weary crowd. Have to work that out. Might be very unique and interesting. More later.

RJ,
I sure hope your gumbo recipe is not a secret. I got my knife real sharp for those splints, but I got a stand by, a real long straw. Man I can't wait, it sure is shaping up to be a great show or in the venacular of Ben A GUDUN

WOW,,,,, just keeps getting bigger and better. Jeff,, I like the thing you threw in there about Mr. NUCK, "THE LEGENDARY, "MR. LOUISIANA" BUCK GRANTHAM". What a great person and musician. I'm really wanting to see and hear all these goings on's. It is going to be a show to write home about.

Oh yeah Mike Hoover,,, yo knife ain't gonna help you none with the splints I have designed for you. It ties in the back. Remember I said "STRAIGHT",,, You'd better brang one of them world famous basses of yourn. You are gonna get yo fingers worn down to the third knuckle. Matter of fact,,, better bring 2 or 3.

Folks I got an email (personal) from R.J. today and seems he is really gonna put the food in the hall. That is, if Barney Miller leaves any from Friday nite at the camp.

And one last item about the show.

If you've never had the opportunity to hear and see David Easley,,, you'll want to make this one just for that reason. David is an unbelievable steel guitar player. Can't say enough about his playing and singing.

Things are really looking good for our show on 6 Aug. As all schedules go, this one is subject to change also to try and satisfy all the players requirements etc. Thanks Jeff for inserting this one and here is an update already.
Barney Miller will have the 11:30-12:00 slot.
12:00-12:30: Gary Miles
12:30-1:00: Randy Blackwell
1:00-1:30: R.J. Buras & Bert Couregge
1:30-2:00: Buck Grantham
2:00-2:30: Billy Carr
2:30-3:30: The Jr. Martin Show
3:30-4:00: David Easley
4:00-4:30: The Reggie Duncan Family
4:30-5:00: Big Will Stewart
5:00-5:30: Danny Harrell
5:30-6:00: Ivan Reddington & Mike Brewer
6:00-6:30: Charlie Moore & Les Milam
6:30-7:00: Royce Tarver
7:00-7:30: Howard Tate
7:30-8:00: Jim Parker
8:00-8:30: Winston Street
8:30-9:00: Bob Saxton & Gary Grainger Duo
9:00-9:30: Surprise Guest
9:30-10:00: J.R. Jones Band & steel line up.

I have been informed that Beau Thomas will be in the building and on stage all afternoon. This is probably one of the very best fiddle/violin artists found anywhere on this plannet. Couple this talent with that of Bob Saxton, Gary Grainger, Dock Hearl, Ben O'Dell, Mike Hoover and a host of other great musicians, our band will be second to none for the entire day. We are waiting to hear from SERA. Hope her schedule will allow her to be in the building also. One more piece of info is that we will be graced with a DJ Hall of Fame member-Romeo Sullivan. Jeff might even put him to work on the microphone during the afternoon. More later.

What a show line up. I do love that country fiddle/violin stuff !!!!

I know Uncle Nuck is gonna put their lights out. He always does. I see where Buck is playing the Branson Jam again, and they couldn't make a better selection on the player list. I aught to grab that other pair of britches of mine and take off up there for that one.

R.J. I really can't answer that question bout GUMBO OR GUM-BOW. But it still sounds right !!! I talked to my Grand-Daughter today up in Pa and told her about the gumbo and those pretty little lips went to smacking. In reference to Mike,,,, yeah he shore knows some of that disappearing stuff alright. Oh,, I'm sorry, you said Houdini,,,
NOT WHO DONE IT !!!

And Bill,,, Romeo and I go back a fer piece. Sometime Saturday, get him to tell you some of the Bay Minette stories. I also have a sneaky feeling that another one of my old friends, (Ricky Barnes) may be at the show. Ricky is also, D.J. DELUXE !!! He was with us at the Fish Camp the Friday nite before the last show.

Larry Moore, we gonna miss yo smilin face, but we understand. You take care of that sweet thang for us. That's the most important thing right now and rest assured, we are praying for her all the way. And folks ya see how quick Larry learns,,,,, He actually said it was gonna be a good-un.

Really looking forward to seeing you all at the show. Come hongry and prepared to stay with us all day and night.

RJ,

I thought it was Gumbeaux you know rymes wit Phideaux or Geaux. Been practicin my straight jacket excape rutine, ain't nothin gettin between me and gud gumbeaux.

Man that is a great lineup for the show, and as much as I hate to agree with Ben, David is a tough act to follow, and a fantastic player. Of course, with that line up, you won't want to miss this show.

And the excitement just keeps on growing!! R.J. Buras will be glad to know that one of his long lost Buras connection relations just mignt be able to bring his D-10 steel and be part of the fun. (His off-shore job status is changing and might allow this big, big steel talent to be with us). Can't say for sure yet, but it looks good. Will keep his name under wraps for now. Thanks to all again, and again.

My goodness! What a line-up. I thought only Cajuns knew how to "pass a good time," but with all the talent from all over the South, I'd say that Mr. Stafford has put together quite a MUSICAL GUMBO!

I welcome the opportunity to have Romeo give me some relief as MC...a DJ Hall of Famer. It'd be an honor. We are looking forward to August the 6th, so let's bump it up!

Getting close to good ole gumbeaux time down south.
The above shedule is shifting slightly to allow some of the players to have their families here in the middle of the afternoon.
This is great when the picker's families show up- -and we will do our best to accomodate them as we can. Thanks to all for the support. Hopefully, by Monday, I will have the time schedule for all to see.
See you all soon.

Well, DSSGA has done it again! What a great club and membership. I recieved an email from Danny Harrell this morning. What a great player and person! I've been mulling it over and think that I better show up. But the one condition is that RJ does not allow me to order the "all you can eat" platter. I ate more than I could eat. Ah, those hushpuppies!

What a line up! However, I didn't see Bill Stafford with a slot. Aren't you gonna treat everyone with your steelin' Bill? If I come down with a 5.5 hr drive, I sure hope to hear you play! But, that won't stop me from coming! The wife is telling me to take a break and go enjoy what I love. I guess I shoulda known how smart she was when she married me (actually how lucky I was when I married her).

Danny, thanks for the email! You sneaky little friend. I might have another passenger that played keyboards at the June "Jerry Byrd" jam. Hope everything works out to see all you folks and enjoy the good music! Image

Brang It On Tim !!! Yeah on the sweet litle wife. You sure as heck married UP !!! Ha !!

I think Billy just accidently left his name off the list. Ain't no way he's gonna get away that easy. I'm gonna slide it in on him about doing Jr Martin's set with him. Ole Bill can hammer down on that cajun music !!!

I must agree about the best of the best Hush-Puppies!! I'm sure R.J.'s gonna have a tub full of them.

We are looking for a house full of people and it would sure be nice to see those smiling faces again.

I think Bill may have something up his sleeve with that secret guest. He hasn't even told me who it is. MUST BE A GOOD-UN !!!

Tim,hope you and your "guest" can make it down. Tell Larry he can plug his piano into my spare Evans amp.(I won't forget to bring it this time-lol). Those ToneMark Cabinets you guys make are the very best. Superb renditions of all the highs and lows with no "muddiness"-if there is such a word.
Ben, just you wait 'till you hear Jr. Martin on his D-10 pedal steel! The VFW building and the crowd will never be the same.
Show lineup is really looking good. Few minor changes in the schedule as some players want their families to be here for there performances. Doing the best I can in that to honor and recognize these requirements.
And don't forget the gumbeaux pot!
Special thanks to Jeff Blackwell as he has purchased some time slots on the most popular C&W radio station on the coast-Kicker 108 to advertise our show. Should start airing next week. Thanks Jeff, with support like this from him and all the players, this will be a very good and fun event.

Fellers....I do believe Mr. Stafford will be on the schedule. He tells me there have been some minor changes, but I know we'll get to hear "Mr. Smooth!"

Tim, it'll be great hearing you again. I know the heat was a factor last time...however, I will bring a fan aimed directly at the players, just in case. It's hard to hang on to the bar when you're sweating.

One week and counting!

Is there a recommended place to stay? Same Ramada Inn as in June? I suppose it'll be easy enough to find a room in Diamondhead?

Tim, the Ramada Inn at the Diamondhead Exit off I-10 is the place. Phone them at (228) 255 1300. Remind them about the steel show etc. Sure will be good to see you and Larry again. This will top it off just right. And should our surprise guest be able to make it, we will all be in hog-heaven in the Deep South.
Looking better all the time.

Major improvements happening folks!! Gary Granger will be able to be on stage with us after all. Sure do thank Gary and all of you who get to hear him will thank him also.
Now the great guitar duo of Granger and Saxton will give us a program second to none. Include Beau Thomas with his violin/fiddle and the rest of us will just want to sit, listen and admire these guys. And topping that off will be the upright bass playing of Thomas David.(Thomas will be celebrating his 21st birthday0. What a treat for us to have this superb group of musicians. Could not appreciate all you great players from Louisiana any better. Just a few more days till then.

Don't mean to have so many entries on this thread, but things are developing quite rapidly this week for our Mississippi Louisiana feis do day. (Hope I spelled that right, and if not, I can be corrected). BIG NEWS!--
SERA will be able to be on stage with her most accomplished steel guitarist-JOE WRIGHT!
Also, one other big time surprise artist is trying to re-arrange his schedule. More on this later as it develops.
I am very thankful for all this wonderful support from the DSSGA members. We have been able to purchase a day's advertising on one of the coasts favorite FM C&W stations-"Kicker 108" due to a most generous donation. These promo ads will start on Saturday morning at 6 AM and stop at 7PM-with give away tickets etc.
Hopefully, this will show our Louisiana players, fans and friends how much we appreciate them and their talents. Thanks to all.

More great news as this show in Gulfport on Saturday continues to grow.

The local paper interviewed Bill Stafford today about the show, plus with radio exposure, you'd better plan on getting there early to get your seat!

Hang on...there's more! The legendary PEE WEE WHITEWING will be driving in for the show, and his guest, ORAY OUBRE' from Port Arthur, TX will be with him. I first met both of these fantastic players in Woodworth, LA last Fall and they will be a joy to watch and listen to.

Make a pallet on the floor if you have to, but don't miss a minute of this STELLAR STEEL LINE-UP in Gulfport on Saturday. See you there!

I know you, Ben, R.J., Danny, Reggie. Bob, Jeff and all the rest are gonna knock their socks off (AND have a lotta fun!) this weekend! I hope the A/C holds up.

I was gonna be in the audience, but last minute stuff changed my plans. Maybe next time.

Ya'll have fun.

Ben, tell Mickey that Liz and I are glad she's okay and on the mend.
