Talking about playing records, Tan use to play records here in LAKE City for $500.00 a night, and he still could but quit. There are 2 men All and a sax player, they make $500. a night just the 2 of them, they work on a regular basis. But for country dance bands are a thing of the past.
We play in Quitman at a senior dance on Friday nite but it is free. Also the is one in Dixie Ga. Morvin Ga. Pelam G.. I Nashville is the best one, the have from 200 to 500 a night it is paid.
Some Moose Lodges have dances 1 time a month pays $500.00, for live band.
Some private parties sometimes if you know the right people, we did an Insurance party a while back.
I think country could be promoted if a person went at it the right way, Car sales, Rodeos, Trailer sales, flee markets, I just do not have the time after working all day to even practice much less promote. Besids i can make more working a job than playing, so I just play for the fun of it, and no worries.

I struggled around playing the local country scene in our area, generally $25-35 a night, but, about a year ago, I switched to playing with a beach band.
What have I missed here by being away?! I was playing the local scene (Western NY) back in the mid-70's at $35/man/night!

Chris and Gary you are so right. It was a dive. Played there three weeks. Only did it for the chance to go to D.C. during the day.

Speaking of Maryland, has anyone else ever worked with a singer, Dewey Reed?

I worked quite a bit with him, including a monthly job at the Eldersburg community center, around Rockville, and we used to work Car Zinn's Club 355 in Frederick.

Donny Hinson,

That list of clubs brings back many memories. I can't believe I haven't bumped into back in those days. What were some of the bands you were playing with when you played those clubs... especially The Millstream Inn.

Jeff, is the Mill Stream the one out in Woodlawn? We used to go to that one occasionally in the 70's and early 80's when we were back at SSA Headquarters for meetings.

I left Bendix Field Engineering and went to work for SSA and moved from Laurel to Kansas City, Mo. But, still got back to "Balimer" several times a year.

I think there was also a "Mill Run" in the Woodlawn area and also a "Crews".

Jack,

The "Mill Race Inn" was around the corner from the "Millstream Inn". Millstream is now a strip joint... but back in the mid 70's I played there on Sunday nites with The Paradise Pickers... a country band based out of Catonsville. What a blast back then. Yes, The Millstream was on Dogwood Rd. in Woodlawn, MD.

Bendix Corp... I dated a gal whose Dad was a big wig there. Last name was Ralph Martino. Ring any bells?

Unfortunately there was a conflict, I think we're doing the Cancun Cantina that weekend.
