Woody

Post by Kevin Robbins »

Woody told me this just a short while ago, "I was put here to serve God and fellow man. When HE is finished with me here, I'm ready to serve with HIM".

On behalf of the MASGA, I'd like to how much Woody will be missed as member and a dedcated band member. While there will always be players, no one can replace Woody Ledford.

Our prayer go out to all his family.

Woody was a superb musician and a truly remarkable man. For me, the thing that stood out most about him was how he treated other people. Even before he became ill, he called me one day to tell me how much my friendship meant to him. I’m sure he made similar calls and comments to many of you. Most guys just don’t think about doing things like that, but Woody did, and did it sincerely.

I found this picture on the southernsteelconvention.com web site. This is how I will remember Woody…

Woody was a super fine guitarist and one of the nicest persons you could ever meet. It was always and honor to pick with Woody at the steel shows. He always had a bright smile on his face even at the end of the day after playing for 8 hours. I will miss Woody very much as will most of us. Love ya Woody.

My wife and I first met Woody, along with Johnny Thomas, at the Alabama Steel Guitar Association show in Prattville, Alabama 2008. We were quick to notice his joy of playing and the remarkable talent he had. Another trait we will always miss, is what a gentleman he was. He will truly be missed and always remembered as one of the guitar world's finest. Our prayers go out to his wife, family and friends.

Woody was, as we all agree, a superb musician, but the thing I shall remember is the way he always greeted me with a handshake and a hug and a gentle word to let me know he really cared. He was my friend and I'm better for having known him.

Mike and I are so sad to recieve word of Woody's passing. The past couple years we have come to love him so much. Our prayers are with Rachel and their family. We will miss Woody's fine guitar playing but more so, his smile, his sincerity and his hugs. We will forever, in our minds, see Woody sitting beside Johnny as they played those twin parts like they were one.
Much love, Joanie and Mike Johnson

Oh No !! I loved that guys playing. Never knew him but never stopped thinking of him.
Visited a steel show in South Carolinia a few years ago. Woddie was the guitar player. I made a point to shake his hand. By far the best musician on the stage.
