Florida Steel Guitar Club July Mtg/Jam

Post by Don Sulesky »

The Florida Steel Guitar Club's July 2005 Meeting/Jam will be Wednesday, July 13th, 2005, at 5:30PM. The location is Catfish Johnny's Restaurant, CR470, Lake Panasoffkee, Fl. (our regular Meeting/Jam place).
The FSGC Club holds monthly Meetings/Steel Guitar Jams the second Wednesday of each month. Lake Panasoffkee is exit 321 on I75, approximately 60 miles west of Orlando and about the same distance north of Tampa.
Please check the Club's web site for special events and specifics. http://web.tampabay.rr.com/jstoner1/

Finally, please remember the club jam is a "Steel Guitar" jam. We have and will continue to allow a "reasonable" amount of singing but the primary emphasis is on instrumentals not an open mike jam.
The commitee

Due to our regular drummer Karl on vacation we will need a drummer if you know one who would like to sit in with us this month.

Speaking of Florida, anybody know a steel player named Jimmy Powell. Hadn't heard anything from him in quiet a while. Last time I heard Jimmy play he had a wonderful tone and sound from his D-10 Emmons.

We have two drummer volunteers for the club jam so we should be set.

Thanks to Tony Sellman and Roger Allen.

The club's monthly meeting/jam is still on. We had some rain and a little wind out of hurricane Dennis but that's all.

We will announce the lineup for the 3rd Anniversary show, Sept 17th, at the club meeting. Unfortunately we didn't have enough $$$ to attract a Nashville picker but our club and other Florida talent is more than enough to fill the bill.

I talk with Jimmy quiet often. He is still a great picker that I really admire. He plays on the first and third week-end of the month at a local restaurant here in my hometown that has live music.

Please keep your posts to the topic of the FSGC.
If you need to locate someone do it on your own post.
This policy should be heeded by other posters also and not the nonsense I see too often on this Forum.
Thank you.

I answered Billy in an E-mail, but some short comment sends it to the top where it will be seen by more people.

*Ernie :
I agree with you. And for Billy and Robert ....Welcome to the friendly Florida Steel Guitar club where " the Comitee " changes their mind more often than they do their strings.Last month there was to be no singing, This month you can sing. Four month's ago there was to be no more Lap Steelers ,turning the club into a Haiwaiin club.I have enjoyed the pickers but ,I have had enough of "The Comitee". I here by resign

Obviously we cannot please everyone all the time. We have strived to get everyone more playing time. We've increased the meeting time three time since it was started.

Bud, As you are a very infrequent attendee, and always complained about something when you did show up. I will glady accept your "resignation". You have been purged from the club's membership.

It is very difficult to please everyone all the time and we as a committe have yes made some changes along the way, but not as often as mentioned.
Last month(June) we did have 13 singers in less than a 3 hour jam. We did not say you can't sing, but some complained they drove all the way to play steel not to back up a singer because that is what they do most time. Also the owner of the restaurant who allows us to use his place commented that I thought this was a steel guitar club not an open mike jam.
The original purpose for the FSGC was to allow steel players both bedroom pickers and those who sit behind a singer all the time to get the chance to spread their wings and play solo steel songs.
We try to please the majority of players and if along the way the direction of the club strays we do have to make adjustments but we don't intend to offend anyone and we do not tell or ask anyone not to come.
All are welcome. And it's free.
