Topic: Volume Pedal-Replace 250K Pot With 500k Pot? |

I'm new at this, so try not to laugh too hard. I have an Ernie Ball volume pedal. I have been informed that it has a 250K pot. It seems to be in good condition otherwise. If I replace that pot with a 500K pot, like a Dunlop from Tom Bradshaw, will I be good to go, or are there other considerations?
Oh, what the heck, go ahead and laugh. Everybody needs a good one from time to time.

| There are a lot of Ernie Ball pedals in use, you are not the only one. The 500K pot change is a good upgrade. The only real issue with an EB pedal is the placement of the input and output jacks. VP's made for Pedal Steel have the input and output jacks on the right side so as to not interfere. |

| Some models of the Ernie Ball pedal have the input and output jacks on the right side. I have never used one but I don't see why they wouldn't work as well as any other pedal. The old Fender pedals used 250K pots and I did use one of them up until about 1979. I do think the 500K pot is better for use with the modern humbucking pickups. |

I have an EB vol. pedal and have used it for years...Changed the pot. to a 500K and it works great..Carson

Thanks for the input. Both jacks are on the right side of my pedal. It also has a tone control. I have had a distortion problem playing my PSG through my Fender Twin. The distortion does not completely disappear, but decreases when I plug the guitar directly into the amp. Some forum members advised that my pedal is a 250K pot and I would get better results with a 500K pedal. I have a new set of 4 matched 6L6 tubes in the amp. I just bought a Nashville 1000 that I expect delivery on within the next day or so. I am interested to see whether the problem occurs with that amp.
My MSA Classic S10 has the original SuperSustain pickup. I have raised an lowered the pickup with no appreciable difference. I replaced one cord. I have used this pedal before, and don't recall the distortion problem being this bad. I'm really starting to wonder if I don't have a combination of problems. Maybe the amp needs serviced? Maybe the pedal pot is going bad? Maybe the pickup?
