I have an early Sho Bud S-10 #6139.
The legs for the pedal rack have holes in them for the screw to go thru on the pedal rack for tightening.
My question is if I order a 1" or 2" extension kit I know there will be no problems extending the pedal rods. But what about putting the spacer or bushing on the leg? Would there be a problem because of the hole in the leg? Can the bushing go above it or can't you use a lift kit on these? I do not think there would be a problem. I think the spacer or bushing that would go on the leg would just be mounted above the pedal rack, correct?
Would anyone out there have an answer for me please?

Normally, the spacer goes between the leg tightener and the pedal bar. Without a pic it's hard to be certain, but if the hole is in the sliding part of the leg below the leg tightener, you'll be ok. If not, change your front legs to adjustable legs and get out the drill. Another option: put threaded leg extenders on top of the legs. |

Al, I got a lift kit for my 6139 and I had that problem. The spacers go above the screw, but they are too thin and they don't work like they're supposed to. Because of the nut on the inside of the pedal bar, there's too wide of a gap between the leg and the pedal bar for the lift kit to be effective.
It's a simple fix...I just need to get some thicker spacers made...just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Shouldn't be too hard or expensive for a metal shop to do...it's just a small tube. |

SPACERS:I use 1/2" I.D. black or white PVC sprinkler pipe and cut to length. It's not very noticable between the leg clutch and pedal rack.
PEDAL ROD EXTENDERS: You can make lift kits with coupler nuts and set screws (same thread as the pedal rod ends) from your local hardware store. Use Loc-tite to bond the set-screw in the nut and allow to dry 30 min before you thread the assembly between the ped-rod and and pedal fastner.

Al, the spacer is needed to keep the pedal bar from riding up the leg. Since your leg has a thru bolt this is not a problem so you don't need the spacer. Instead, you need to cut a proper length dowel, PCV pipe or wood block and put it inside the leg to keep the leg from collapsing as the clutch might not hold it well enough. You can guess at the length it needs to be, cut it and take the leg apart and drop the dowel in the leg and put it back together. If if is too long you can now determine how much to cut off. If it is too short you can determine how much longer it needs to be and make another or add a short one. It if is barely too short drop proper number of pennies in the leg. All you need is extensions for the pedal rods and "stops" inside the legs to keep them from telescoping.

My friend Jerry is soooooo spot on. Spacers on the outside are not very nice looking. It's simple to cut a dowel and keep it all inside---and out of sight. Drop a penny in so the dowel does not push through the rubber end on the inner leg. Level your guitar, then adjust your pedalrods and your done. |

Al...Jerry has covered the solution quite nicely per usual. One advantage to Jerry's method not previously mentioned is that once you have the proper leg height secured with the dowels, the clutch does not have to be tightened as much. After the leg is installed and tightened, this permits you to move the lower section slightly so that the screws on the pedalboard line up with the holes in the leg more easily. On my old Sho-Bud, I used to install one side of the pedalboard and attach the nut, then swing it around to line up with the other leg. |
