Steel Player needed NY state
ANOTHER great band situation I had to pass up, because its just too far away.. These guys are 120 miles away... This is SO frustrating,, several really good steel gigs I have to give to other players because of distance... ARRGGHH!
Anyway.. This is one of the top local bands in all of NY state. They have a band website with well over 103,000 hits so you KNOW they are popular... They make great money and play a LOT ,and all great gigs. no bars. County fairs, concerts, civic gigs, weddings private affairs, pre features,.. Big campgrounds, state parks..
Tons of great work, and a really good band to boot... I am SICK that I have to pass, but practice would be 116 miles EACH way and gigs mostly over 100-125 miles each way.. Just can't do it.
If you are in the Syracuse/Utica/ Herkimer/ Lower Adirondack area this is the band you have been seeking...
They are called The Fulton Chain Gang Band,, Google it and you;ll find a great band website, great Myspace page, and Youtube as well, and tons of other stuff on these guys all over the net
.
THIS is the band you are looking for guys... get on the site and contact Dave the guitarist... They need a good player fast.... bob

Ha Jim, you beat me to it.... Drop in the bucket, in TX or CA. It's a state of mind. I remember living up there and to drive 30 mi was a stretch... Sure you remember it as well.... Come to think of it, when I first moved to FTW in 1984, you were driving 70 mi each way to Mingus to work with Kinneth Doyle. At the time I thought that was crazy. Didn't take long to realize otherwise.

That's cause you're in Dallas and it is a whippin to go anywhere. :):) Get over to FTW and you can be out of town in just a few minutes, then clear sailing with courteous drivers, colder beer, and NO TOLLS (for now). I forgot Bob in NY has to deal with Thruway tolls, which by now are probably more than the gig pays.

Yep ,, and these guys are located dead center in the snowbelt..Kevin Hatton wrote:We have Siberian snow storms here in western and central N.Y. that routinely shut the Thruway and other major roads down. Extremely dangerous driving in the winter. Life threatening.
Hey my very good friends from Texas, if you can drive close to 240 miles round trip after work just to practice AFTER getting up at 5 am and driving a school bus all day, God bless you, you are better men than me.
The drive is only part of it... Its time. I wouldn't be able to get to rehearsals on time, and if a gig starts at 7, and I have to work that day, there's just no way to make it. I have to be realistic.
I would always be pressed for time, and it would be really tough.
Especially in the winter.. They really need a local guy, unfortunately.. bob

i'm glad i read this thread - i'm sort of along Bob's line of thinking, but after you TX guys chimed in, maybe my travel limit may increase by 50 miles - there are so many opportunities i have turned down cause i didnt want to travel more than 100 miles to do a gig (unless the $$$ was worth it)
i just have this mentality that there is stuff around the house that NEEDS to be done on the weekends and if its not financially justifiable to eat a weekend up on the road i wont take it. maybe time to rethink.

C,mon guys... Dave just called me up and they still don't have a guy.. This is one of NY states best known , best paid and most popular bands, and they have gigs every weekend, and they DON'T play sleazy bars.. These are high end gigs!... I would be there in a second if they were even just 50 miles closer... This is the gig of your dreams.... bob

Fellow Forumites, I took a look at these fellows' website, and I agree with what Mr Carlucci said...these guys are GREAT!!! If it was just a little bit closer from Wynyard, Tasmania, to central New York State, I'd be on the phone with these fellows in a heartbeat! Whoever gets this one will be a part of what I consider a terrific band, with lots of gigs to keep them busy! Anyway, just my two cents worth.. Bob, if you wouldn't mind, please pass on my best to these guys!!!
