There are several scams currently going around that involve money orders. I personally would not take a money order from a non-forum member.
That e-mail looks pretty fishy to me. I'd bet its a scammer.

Herb,
As you can tell by his first sentence this is a great man you are dealing with ! In order to be allowed to use a money order to buy a family heirloom pac a seat from me last month it was imperitive that he become a part of my family. So he married my microcephalic sister in a special cerimony and he paid the usual dowery costs (a goat, shovel and a wagon load of water buffalo dung) up front ! The transaction is going well so far. Once my sister bears a healthy albino male child the pac a seat will be transfered to mr victor korie through my agents.

Just in case somebody here doesn't know yet, this is a Nigerian 419 check-kiting scam. It has been discussed on the two main buy and sell forums, and measures are being set in place to block these creeps from accessing the Forum.
My advise is do not reply to these people.
If you already have replied they probably have sent you an offer to buy with an over-amount certified check, and asked you to refund the balance via Western Union, to Lagos, Nigeria. If you do get such an email, mentioning overpayment and refunding, please FORWARD that email to me. My special account in in the email link above this Post.

Bob Hoffnar you got me ROTFLMAO.
The only way to do this deal is say :
Pick up of material is AFTER my banker has give complete clearance for the check at his end,
and the writers bank ALSO. Nothing less.
Takes about a week or so.
Otherwise your bank can't tell if the doccument is real. And YOU weill get hit for the charge when it is proved false.
( This is what they are counting on. Shipment of merchandise and forwarding of the cash difference before the instrument actually clears. )
If they THEN go for the deal knowing the money order or other financial instrument will go through a FULL and COMPLETE verification and payment procedure, then It is likely a good deal.
If it ain't they will disappear faster than smoke in a nor'easter.
But you go throught the FULL procedure before sending ANTHING out PERIOD!
If it isn't good, you lose nothing,
if it is then your deal is good.
Also these horrible grammatical letters are a big tip off.

He managed to copy remited from somewhere.
But the rest is like an 8 year old... who couldn't play a steel if you paid them.
Too much "delayment" in their brains!
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 19 September 2004 at 09:57 AM.]

I think ebb has the right idea....Load up a pedal steel box filled with ???, and seal it all up nice...This guy's eye's should pop out of his head just about the time you find out that your money order or certified bank check is bogus !!... The beauty of it is that he will be paying the shipping !!...

I think I need a Fuzzytone volume pedal!

Frank;
Anybody can modify their existing pot-equipped volume pedal to sound like a classic Fuzzytone volume pedal. The technique involves removing the sealed pot from it's mount and prying open the back cover. Then apply a triple-folded piece of emory cloth to the carbon element, and saw it around in different directions. Next, add a few strands of hair and dust from your computer's mouse rollers, and some human and cat hairs, just for good measure. One last touch is to apply your thumb nail to the surface of the carbon element, then toss in a bit of dirt from the yard. Seal up the back and apply some silicon sealant to keep the new contents from coming out.
I guarantee that you'll now have a uniquely dirty sound that every steel player will envy, and which cannot be easily duplicated by digital means. or fuzz pedals. This could lead to your getting hired in Punk Rock and Alternate Country bands, who would normally avoid clean sounding steel players like the plague!
Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your Fuzzytone volume pedal modifications. Perhaps you could Post your results here, so others can benefit from them.
