| My guess---is that it has been refinished, and the pots have been changed although I cant really make out the numbers. You might want to look under the tuner pan but again I would think it dates to 1953 to 55 based on the phillips screws and if there is no leather on the case. The weak link with this type of guitar is the tuners and the pickups, if they are working for you plug in and go. This vendor sells alot of Fender steels and parts. I have a custom from him. I dont know for sure if my wiring and pots are original but everything works. I only got a half a case and I mean that literally. It still works you just have to keep it from sliding out of the end. |

1. It has had the original finish stripped off. It would either be blonde or walnut...if you are lucky there might be a date written on a piece of tape in the control cavity or maybe penciled in under the tuner pan? I'm not sure deluxes had the date written under the tuner pan but it doesn't hurt to check.
2. It has a stringmaster logo plate...the original would have been a block logo.
3. Pots have been changed.
Looks like a nice players guitar. If the pickup and tuners work fine, i'd say you made out okay...really hard to pinpoint a date without the original pots or written date, but this type guitar was made from around '50 til '55.
EDIT- like Keith said above- if the phillips screws are original- that probably puts it in the '53-'55 range. |

It has been refinished as guessed. As long as it works, you should be happy with it. I would say that the previous guesses of 1950-1953 are good. It's a working man's guitar, and you got it for a good price. I hope you enjoy it!

Its definitely been refinished and the pots have been changed. The pots are CTS and that looks to to me to be an Allparts part number on them.
Though not an original finish, I love the look of ash in natural.

thanks for the replys everyone....
Im just learning C6th.. so I purchased it to have a good sounding guitar for c6 playing/gigging... Also going to purchase a stand for it.... love that country c6th sound... I will post some sound samples when it arrives..
according to the auction.. the pickup is original, so Im hoping for some nice tone....
Tom is that Ash?
can anyone tell if the cap is original?

Hard to say about the cap, it kind of looks like a newer cap to me, but the .05 value points to older as modern caps tend to come in .047 value, the .05 is not seen much these days.
That grain pattern definitely looks like ash to me and that would be in line with what was used in the day.
Here is a neat piece of swamp ash I've got stashed that has that stacked U / chevron'ish pattern.
