A few weeks ago I acquired a Derby D-10, but it needed switching from 'Emmons' to 'Day'. Earlier last month I left Florida for a five week run of a show in Abingdon, VA, and I tried to tell myself that I was going to attempt this project myself in my considerable spare-time here in Abingdon. I'd be too far away from Nashville, so I thought I was 'on my own'!

Imagine my delight when I realised that, far from being in a 'steel-guitar wasteland', I'd only be thirty miles from Bryan Adam's house in Mountain City, TN - a real steel-tech who'd be able to do the work and - unlike me - NOT reduce the guitar unusable scrap! I called him and he agreed to do the work.

Well - it wasn't only a switch from 'Emmons' to 'Day' - I'd also acquired a bunch of Derby rods and bell-cranks and had conceived of an ambitious plan to fully exploit those eight pedals and five 'knees', including adding the 'Isaacs' change to P4, and two C6th pulls on my LKR. Bryan has done brilliantly and the guitar plays just great!

I've visited him twice now and thoroughly enjoyed chatting, noodling on Emmons p/ps, and learning stuff from an expert. We had a pretty tasty cheeseburger today, too!

Thanks for a great job, Bryan - who needs 8+8???? Very Happy

Bryan is absolutely the "real deal" when it comes to working on as well as playing a steel guitar. He is a truly great player and what means more to me than that, he is my friend!!! Has been since 1981 when he built my first Emmons push pull. I still have it and it is a good one. He is also one of my mentors on becoming a push pull mechanic.

Bryan Adams helped me in the early eighties at the Burlington,NC Emmons building. It was a sweltering hot May afternoon and evening. I enjoyed his stories about Ava Barber and the gigs he had done. He also was aghast at whoever it was at the time that was taking PP cabinets and converting them to all pull mechanics. He was not pleased. A real good man. Don D
