It was BE on E9th. I was at a steel show in 1984 where he showed a group of us the cool bar slant he did at the modulation. |

Also look for the Gatlin Brothers: "The Lady Takes The Cowboy Everytime" The guitar player on "Houston" is Leon Rhodes. The fiddle player on "The Lady Takes The Cowboy Everytime" is Johnny Gimble. Both cuts are available from iTunes. |

I don't know why I thought Mike Johnson played on that song,,but I somehow think it was another steel player that told me that...Anyway,,its a great intro and turnaround by the one only Buddy Emmons..This should go down as a classic..... |

Hey Jerry,,,thanks for the update...I knew there was a steel player named Mike associated with the Gatlins..I guess I had the wrong one..Leave it to Emmons to come up with something like that...wow! |

Here's Mike's reply from the above thread.

Hi Marcel,
Thanks for the email asking the question. The answer is Yes and No. Although I've recorded 17 of the Gatlin's albums to date, there were a few that Jerry Crutchfield produced and he used his crew. Lady Takes the Cowboy was one of those projects and that was Emmons on that recording (wish I could take credit for it), but...that was me on the video.
Just a bit of FYI...I played the original version of "Houston" (with Larry Gatlin producing) and then Jerry Crutchfield was going to produce the other half of that album. Jerry talked the label into ditching Larry's cuts and using his own (Buddy again). I did like BE's version personally. When the Gatlin's changed record labels we re-cut many of the hits including "Houston" and I was playing on all of those. But...I used most of BE's licks and was able to throw some other stuff in there too.
Later,
Mike |

I think the original recording of "Houston" is in a vault someplace. It was never released (the one Emmons was on was what everyone heard first).
