Was just in a guitar store and they had a beautifully maintained Oahu Diana from 1952 with the original case and in perfect condition. Steel sounds pretty amazing, no noise on the pots and it looks stunning.

Guy wants $600 even for it.

Any thoughts on these steels and what they go for?

Bill,
Great instrument, 25" scale, Valco string-through pickup, great tone.
I think they are the most beautiful instruments made by
National/Valco in the post war period.
The Diana is identical to the Tonemaster model mechanically.
The prewar Diana is also fantastic. I think they were made by Kay.

Here's a photo of my postwar model.

I don't think you need to pay more than $500 in really great condition with an original case that's also in great condition.

I agree with the above. $600 sounds a little high.

$600 is absolutely too high.

If you pay $600 as oposed to $500 for a rare and wonderful lap steel today and enjoy it for a few years, so, what? I mean, come on, huh. If this was anything but a lap steel, like a vintage National of that era, what would you pay if you wanted it? Just a question.

$600 for a prime example does not sound out of line to me. I seriously doubt you will easily find another with that many positive descriptors for less.
