I went to see Hot Club of Cowtown Band last night at a private setting Great western swing an jazz band, no steel but Elana James is a very hot fiddle player, if you get the chance go see them go for it.

Since you're in Missouri, I assume you're not talking about a band in Fort Worth, the real Cowtown. Confused

Jim, they're from Austin, actually.

On second thought, I'm not sure their from Austin. There used to be a band in Austin by that name but the band in the link seems like a different band.

Keep on pickin'!

The original Hot Club of Cowtown was from Austin and featured Elana (who had a different last name at the time) and a fellow by the name of Whit Smith. They broke up for awhile. I had heard they were back together. I have several of their CD's from the old days. What I loved about Elana was her voice.

Previously Elana went by Fremerman. I believe James is a derivative of her middle name (Jamie?). Yes, the voice is great, but I think the fiddle might be better. Very entertaining recordings, and the live act is even better.

I know that Elana is from KC Mo,but makes her home in Austin, an her Mom was a violinist an she is the one who got her started. I got two of there Cd's there very good, but there live performance is much more lively, an they play to the audience. I think her fiddle playing is her most out standing talent, unless you count her looks she is pretty good in that area also.

And so far, she's looking better with age. But that voice just kills me. Razz

Yeah, I know what you mean about her voice. I don't know whose throat to cut, hers or mine. Ha. I really like to hear her sing AND play. The trio is terrific. I brought my 94 yr old friend who is a classical violinist and she was really impressed. She especially liked Jake the bass player. She said he had been taught the proper positions on the bass.
One thing's for sure, he can really slap that thang!

I had the opportunity to play before these guys in Knoxville a couple of months ago on WDVX's "Blue Plate Special". I'd never heard of them before, and they were awesome. It made for a fun morning gig.
