| What do you guys think of the model G Ric? How would you compare it to the Bakelite? What do you think a model G is worth. Any advice would be appreciated! |

| The model G Rickenbacker in question was for sale on E-bay. Seemed to be in really good shape, I pulled out of the bidding at $670.00. It sold for $687.00, I don't know if that was a good deal or not. It was a very good looking instrument. Oh Well! |

I'm with Ray on this one. Big difference between a "G" and a bakelite for instance. And sometimes a bakelite can be had for what that "G" sold for. I sold a 7 string bakelite at Joliet a couple of years ago, for $650.

| I am not a vintage guitar expert but have been watching various items on e-bay for casual entertainment (I know I need a life! but sometimes it's fun just to read the descriptions some of these people cook up) I have yet to see a Rick of any shape or description that has sold for what I think is a good deal in the last six months. The same goes for old Nationals so for whatever reason there are plenty of people out there willing to pay between 500 and 900 for old six string lap steels not sure why but it has been consistent recently. |

| Being a new member of the forum I was previously unaware of the instrument sales here. I have purchased a number of guitars and amps on E-bay. I got some pretty good deals on some, and in a couple of instances I paid a little more then I should have. I was always able to shop elsewhere on line as the auction progressed to check on comparable prices. The vintage lap steel sales are a little harder to find out what's up. I guess it is one of those live and learn experiences. It sure is kick in the butt fun though! |

Paul,
The Model G was the most expensive Rick lap steel of its era and is scarce especially in very good condition.
Some collectors look for them for their beauty and rarity, but I've never heard anyone say they are great sounding instruments. I think they sound pretty much the same as any other postwar stamped steel body Rick.
I've recently seen postwar Model NS go for between $4oo and $500. The Rick bass players will for some reason buy them for the horseshoes.
Anyway, I'm surprised that that G went so low. Times are tough, and the used/vintage guitar market is suffering along with the rest of the economy. Someone got a great deal/

| Just an update! There was a BD 6 Ric on E-bay that closed a few minutes ago with a starting price of $950.00 with no bidders. I have seen quite a few in the last 6 months go for $1300.00 to $1600.00. I quess the hard times are really setting in! |

The pre-war bakelites bring more than the post-war types. Supposedly because the tone is better, and the idea that the wider magnets are better.
A lot of nice guitars are hanging on people's walls for decoration (or status symbols) and no one gets to hear how nice they sound. It's too bad too....... |
