I had been eyeing this previously undescribed BR-6 for almost 20
years at a St. Louis guitar store, but I could never get the owner to give me a price. So, I just gave up on it.
Last month it was given to me as a birthday present from my mother and brother.
It got some play the next day at a jam with some friends. It has the typical 50s P-90 sound, which to my ears is wonderful.

i knew of the yellow BR6TV but not this finish
could it be original ?
i doubt the knobs are ?

The black one on the right is the first version of the BR-6. The one you refer to as the BR-6TV is actually a Royaltone version 2 according to A.R. Duchoissoir, who has also told me that the one I posted here is a one-off made for show purposes. |

Andre has recanted and decided that this lap steel is the previously undescribed BR-6B as opposed to a one off show model.
It's hard to know what to be more exited about, a one-off or a named instrument that hasn't been described. To me it's modern archaeology.
Andre says it will be included in the 2nd edition of GESG as the BR-6B.

Gibson keeps really good records of all there instruments sold over the years. You could give them the serial number and they'll tell you the EXAACT model name, where the guitar was sold as new and who originally bought it.
Seeing as the painted serial number is in tact I would say that is surely the original finish.
What a lovely guitar!

You are exactly right about that.
It was a late 30s EH-150.
There's a beautiful photo of it in A.R.Duchoissoir's latest book, Gibson Electric Steel Guitars.
Anyone interested in Gibson/Gibson steel guitar history should own this book. |
