High and Lonesome - free download
For my friends on the Steel Guitar Forum:
Here is a free download for my rendition of the old song "900 Miles" by Fiddlin' John Carlson. It's definitely not a perfect recording - there's some clipping in places, and at times my playing is nothing to write home about. I'll need to play this song at a gig a couple months from now, and sometimes when learning a new song, it helps me to record it. I hope I've stayed at least somewhat faithful to the feel and intentions of the song.
So . . . this is it if you'd like to listen:

or listen to an mp3 (thank you Bent Rommes) at:
http://picosong.com/FsJ/
I hope you enjoy it.

Hello Susan,
Like Anders said, the song is definitely yours. None other than YOU could have come up with that version.
I would like to ask: Would you like feedback on this one or did you post it purely for our listening enjoyment?

Anders, thank you very much.
Bent, I posted this for your listening enjoyment; if you feel like you would like to leave some feedback, it's welcome.
James, I'm not sure what you would need to download the file. I usually (with a mac) just press "Download", and then my computer asks me what I want to do with it, so I open it in iTunes. When you go to the Sendspace site, there are two big buttons at the top. If you press "Download" at the left, it should just download to your computer. If that doesn't work, let me know, and if it still doesn't work, let me know again, and I'll bring you a cd of the song when I visit Scotland in late June.
Thanks for listening.

Susan, the site you uploaded the song to is one of those sites where, when you are a member, the download is quick and easy. If you choose to do a non-member downlaod, the site has a speed restriction that will take 15 minutes for the download...obviously a money-grabbing site. Many people won't accept the slow download and cancel. Therefor your song will not get heard by many. Very unfair to say the least, since there are so many free sites. One such site seems to be popular here on SGF... http://picosong.com/
It is fast, easy and also fast on the download end.
Since it sounds like you uploaded this tune mainly for our listening enjoyment I will be quick and not too much in-depth in my feedback:
I will reiterate what I said earlier that the version is so definitely you. There were passages that I loved and some that I liked less. I love the clarity of your steel. You have a fine right hand!

Thanks Clyde and Bent for your advice about uploading. If you'd like to hear the mp3 version, I uploaded the song on (thanks Bent) picosong.com, so you can hear it online with a minimum of waiting at: http://picosong.com/FsJ
However, I'm hesitant about mp3's, at least for my music, because I feel that format takes away much of the subtlety of sound, dynamics, and overtone that are important to my approach. So if you'd like a different (and hopefully better) download experience for the download, you can go to this url:
https://www.yousendit.com/download/bFFP ... MTQwTVE9PQ
"900 Miles" is a little over 7 minutes long and 72 mb in size, so the download may take a little longer than other steel guitar instrumentals. If you want the best listening experience, the download is what I would recommend. Music like this (I think) may not be well-suited for the casual listener.
