Does anyone here have any experience with the Acoustic AG60? I've been going to little jam sessions where there's no PA, and each guitarist uses an amp that has a mic channel. Since I'm doing some singing, I need my own amplification.
Specifically, I'm wondering if this sounds acceptable for steel (similar to a Roland Cube, for example). It wouldn't need to sound spectacular, just "not bad".
Here the web site and a pic:

Musicians Friend has them for $300 - hard to beat that price. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I don't how the steel would do, but one of the six string players at church uses that brand amp. I think, based on that one that they must be a good product. _________________ Sierra Session D10, Rickenbacker, Fender, Session 400, Classic 30, Harke |

It's gotten relatively good reviews on Harmony Central, but only five of them.
That's a very good price for what you'd be getting, in my opinon. _________________ Bradβs Page of Steel

I pulled the lever on this one. $10 delivery in 5 business days. I don't know how they can do this. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

It arrived Thursday. I haven't taken it out of my little music room, but I can make a preliminary report on how it works as a steel amp. I haven't plugged a mike into it yet.
Acoustic guitars must have really weak pickups. The Truetone in my Desert Rose S-8 measures less than 13K ohms, but it clipped until I turned the input volume way down (input 1 at 9 o'clock - see picture).
Not a real problem, though. There seems to still be plenty of headroom.
Tone-wise, it fell sort of flat. I played with the knobs a bit but I couldn't get it to sparkle until I added the Sarno Freeloader (before the volume pedal). That made a world of difference. The settings shown above are with the Freeloader knob at 7. It sounds pretty good now.
Note that the level knob at the top right is irrelevant - it's for the iPod input. The master level control below it is the actual master volume control. (I'm in a very small room.)
The DSP effects are reasonable. I'm using "echo/rev 2" which fattens the sound nicely. The differences between the various plate, room and hall settings are too subtle for my ears at room volumes. I expect I'll hear them better when it's cranked up.
The unit is designed in California and manufactured in China. It came very well packed in a colorful consumer product box. It's heavy and awkward to move around. There's no cover, and no way to stash the dangling power cord when you're moving it. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |
