I'm looking for live footage from 1979-1981 for a friend. No luck on YouTube. If anybody comes up with something, please post or contact me.

b0b, if this belongs elsewhere, feel free to move it.

Go to www.amazon.com
and type in Ray Price Cherokee Cowboy
It was put out in 2005 but it has Jimmy Day on steel
and it is good and on special.
Also get Last of the Breed with Ray Willie Merle
and others on special.

The one to look for is Ray and the band on Austin City Limits from somewhere around 1982-1984 or so. The Big E is there playing a rosewood SKH. It was a great show. I had it on VHS and watched it so many times that the tape seemed to deteriorate over time until the video was gone.

Hey Mike and Steve. I have been searching for the same show on ACL and exchanged several emails with the company that issues those older shows on DVD for sale. The last email I received was a couple of months ago and it indicated the show was still in their archives but not scheduled for release. I have no idea if there are legal/license/copyright issues or if they don't think it's commercially viable(or both). They have been very nice in their mailings to me and don't sound like corporate ogres and their reply's do take some time.
On my last email to them I mentioned that Buddy Emmons was arguably the greatest pedal steel guitar player of our generation and yet very little high quality live video of him playing is commercially available, much less with Ray Price and a great band with high quality audio too. I also mentioned that Buddy has semi-retired and not actively playing or recording as far as I know. Without mentioning the Steel Guitar Forum, I told them that there was a core of steel players and fans worldwide who would do just about anything to buy a good DVD release of the show. I think I said something like his company probably wouldn't get rich doing this but it would be a fantastic gesture and a show of incredible good will on their part and they stood a good chance of at least breaking even.
I haven't heard back but they do take time between emailings. As I said earlier, there may be some releases necessary to obtain or other legal red tape in the way. If someone on the Forum has some clout or knows some of the people involved in that particular show, maybe they could see if it might be possible to coax the folks at ACL to release what could be a great DVD for steel players and fans for years.
If we can be real nice with them and be patient but persistent, maybe we can convince them to take a chance on releasing this truly great show. I'm just sorry I watched it at a friends house back then and forgot to set my VCR for timer recording!

There was also a great Ray Price hour long show on A&E back when they really did "Arts and Entertainment", which was probably 15 years ago. It would be worth finding too.
