Rocker Scott Weiland on Carson Daly
I'm gonna be playing steel on "Last Call with Carson Daly" this monday night/tues morning on NBC. I'm playing some kind of country tune with the well known rock singer Scott Weiland from the bands "Stone Temple Pilots" and "Velvet Revolver".
I did a session with Scott a few weeks ago, but I really have no idea what to expect on this. First rehearsal is today. I know that he wants me to play country pedal steel, so we shall see. I have a feeling he might not be everybody's cup of tea around here, but I do like the guy, and think he's pretty talented! Just hope that taking a foray into C&W isn't gonna be a bad career move for him.

Well I found out after the rehersal today that I'm only filming on monday. The actual airing is later in the week. I'll post more about it when I find out.
BTW, the song has turned out to be a kind of rock power ballad with alot of big sweeping steel pads. I'm happy with what they did in the mix with my original session recording.

for those who might be interested. I found out at the 11th hour that the actual airing date is going to be the 19th of this month.(a week from this thursday) Hope nobody stayed up late.
I think the filming yesterday at the Hollywood Paladium went great. Nothing too earth shaking on my part. I had to wear a dumb suit with an even dumber hat. I had no idea how big of a fan base this guy Scott Weiland has. I felt like I was in the Beatles fer a minute. Woo Hoo.

Rick, wow, that's very cool! As a fan of all genres, including heavy rock (GASP!), I gotta say that this is both joyous & unexpected! Scott indeed sang for Stone Temple Pilots, and now sings for Velvet Revolver, which consists of the musicians from Guns N' Roses. Aside from his constant battle with drug addition and ugly taste in attire, Scott is a talented vocalist. What an interesting combo this is gonna be. Beinging in Canada and not being much of a fan of TV, I cannot say for sure that I will definitely recieve the broadcast, but I'll be looking out for it...Good luck!

Hey Thanks Kevin and all!
BTW, I found out that the show is for sure on NBC Thurday the 19th (technically Friday morning the 20th around 1AM)
I did an internet search and found some reference to the fact that Scott was originally gonna use famous producer and newbie steeler Daniel Lanoir on the show, but Daniel backed out a few days prior. Since I did the actual recording on this tune, I got the call. I'm glad!
Jason....Scott is one of those guys that is so thin he can wear ANYTHING and get away with it. He's wearing a hot pink rhinstone "Newdie" suit that was previously owned by Gram Parsons. Wow! I kind've felt like Shammoo the Whale in the suit I wore, but the Hollywood cowboy hat is starting to grow on me.
The "Hand Model" story.......I'm the hands playing an old Sho-bud in the new Shania Twain video "I ain't no quitter" (the steel on the actual recording is B.J. Cole)....I'm on a TV blue screen behind the honky tonk bar during the steel solo. If you blink you'll miss it. My son Cole is one of the extra's in the background also. It was a total random fluke that I got that call. Sorry guys.
Tonight I'm hosting a lame open mic night for $62.50 at a honky tonk, so it's back to the future for me.
Ahhh show-biz!

I've enjoyed this thread.
When I'm driving I surf the rock radio stations and some STP hits have been getting airplay, no doubt as part of the general PR push for Weiland's new release. Reminded me that they made some good grunge era music. Hope I remember to tape the show Thursday--you are definitely excused if you bump this to the top during the week--just for me and my short term memory deficit.
