No Fret Board / Fret Markers?

Post by Ross James »

howdy,

so i just bought my first pedal steel, an old Rus-ler 10 string, and there is no fret board on the guitar. i was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a makeshift fretboard. i've seen some on ebay for sale and i may go that route, but want something to hold me over until then. any ideas would be helpful.

thanks,
RJ

It is important that you get a fretboard with the right scale length for you to play the guitar in proper tune.

Some steels have a 24" scale, others 24 1/4". Yours is probably one of these.

A few keyless guitars are even longer than that. I don't know what scale the Rus-ler is, but someone else here probably does.

Jim Palenscar deals in steel guitar products out your way and can likely guide you in the right direction as has been recommended previously.

i will definitely post some pics tonight...it's pretty beat up and looks to be a beginner model. it's actually probably the ugliest steel i've ever seen, but it does sound great! i think i'll probably refinish it...

If it's Ugly, I think I had one of those. It was my first guitar. It was very soundly built. I got rid of it before I really knew all that much about what I was doing.
