I attended a little show last night in Springfield, MO. at Luttrell Auction and Music Barn. What a wonderful time my wife and I had. Great comedy from Bill "Goofer" Atterberry, great singing from Luann Turner, Jim Luttrell, Gene Dove. Super lead guitar from Jerry...Sorry to say, I can't remember his last name. Somebody help me. Joe Griffin did a great job on keyboard. I have always been partial to Zum Steel Guitars, but last night I found out it's not the name on the guitar, but the man behind the bar. And let me tell you, Roger Blevins did some super super steel work. Can't wait to back for more.

Tony, I played at Luttrell's in 5 different bands all last year. Yes, that was a great bunch of players playing with Roger Blevins. I might suggest something: Roger Blevins and I both play regularly at the Nixa, Missouri Senior Center on different nights, with two separate bands. Trust me--both bands have seasoned players, and both bands draw over 100 people who pay admission at the door. Roger plays in the band "Hub and Howard" every other Friday Night. I play in the band "Heartland" every Tuesday night. The bands both start at 7:00PM and the cost is $3.00 to get in. By the way, the guitar player you saw at Luttrell's is Jerry Menoun who is our regular guitar player in Heartland. I feel honored to get to play with Jerry every Tuesday night. Much to often there are Country Bands who try playing what I call watered down Country Music. Watered down means--Country Music without a pedal steel and without a fiddle. If you come to see the band Hub and Howard, or the Heartland band, you won't see a watered down Country band. Both bands have pedal steel guitar and fiddle in the band---as well as standard guitar, bass, drums and several singers. Jess Grimes plays fiddle in the band Hub and Howard, and Earnie Jackson plays fiddle in our band. A lot of the so called Country Music crap you hear on radio and see on T.V. is Watered Down Country without a steel guitar and fiddle. By the way, Roger Blevins can out play me in every way--except when it comes to the Ralph Mooney stuff. Roger has a killer guitar player in the band Hub and Howard, his name is Curtis Williams.

Darn, Tony, sounds like you and Judy had a great time. I've always been impressed with Luann's singing and know she always works with a good band. And Keith, good to hear from you again. When I get back on my feet again I'm going to try to come up there and bug you guys. Won't be the same without Tummons 'cause we miss him, but we'll getrdun anyway.

Glad to hear from you Ray, and that you're getting better. Yes, Judy and I had a great evening in Springfield. Wonderful little show, and we we'll go back. It reminded me of what we do at th'Barn..difference being the people there actually listened to the music.

This Man, TONY SMITH is so very respectful and complimentary to other musicians, that He never gives himself any credit of his own. Tony is one of the finest people in the Music Industry, and one of it not the best Fiddle players I know. Tony also has a GREAT voice. Just wish We could see and hear more of his fine talents. Tony and his wife Judy are just the best. Larry Baker

Thanks Larry for the kind words. We are looking to have some very special guests at th'Barn on the 10th. I hope it works out for them and us. Ray, next time we go...I'll let you know. I'm not sure they'd want you and me both in Springfield at the same time though.

Yes, Ray, it is sad that Don Tummons died. Don loved pedal steel and loved singing Ray Price. I miss Don Tummons and my friend Gary Atkinson. Both died within a week of each other. Ray, Luann Turner has a CD out and I played steel on it. The CD is loaded with pedal steel and fiddle. The fiddle player was Wade Landry who was playing with Mel Tillis when we made the CD. Ray, I hope you do come down to sing with us. I can honestly say you are one of the best singers I have ever played steel guitar behind. I mean that Ray--you are a great singer. The Springfield area is loaded with great steel players. I fall far back in the pack of steel players, as all of them have way more talent than I will ever have. The steel players in this area are as good as any in the world. Players like Mike McGee, Jack Musgrave, Gary Wilson, Jimmy Burrells, Roger Blevins.
