Stu,
The closest airport is Portland International[PDX]. The best hotel depends.
You can stay fairly close to the airport and rent a car, hitch a ride or take a cab to the jam in Tualatin, Ore. Otherwise you can stay by the jam but you'll need transportation to and from the airport.
It's probably a 30 min drive. (I'd transport you myself, but I'll be coming in via a 3 hour drive from the exact opposite direction.) I hope you bring the "boomerang" guitar!

If anyone living out by the airport, can pickup Stu (who'll be flying in from Alaska), please contact him.
Just a reminder to all
1] please RSVP by this link, especially if you're attending the steel mechanic's workshop. Spot's are filling up. Don't be left out.

it would be great to meet you Stu, hope you can make it. I am finally gonna get up to alaska this summer but it will be via a cruise ship.
Im a big gear geek. anyone else interested in talking, comparing, trading, buying, selling and trying out gear? maybe we can talk a bit before hand and bring stuff?
I am looking forward to having my butt handed to me yet again. I always leave humiliated, but motivated and always have a great time.
I am trying to resist the urge to look at the setlist before hand. a big part of the excitemnet for me is the pressure of having to come up with something to a song ive never even heard before on the spot. last time the only song i knew was steel guitar rag and I even blew that. too much fun!

It's interesting how we all take a different approach to music. Having the set list with keys and chord notation is the main reason I'm going. I downloaded that info within a day of it being posted! It's the only "way to survive" for me!Ben Jones wrote:I am trying to resist the urge to look at the setlist before hand. a big part of the excitemnet for me is the pressure of having to come up with something to a song ive never even heard before on the spot.
Its the only "way to survive" (another song i dont know and have never played)for me too Brian, but my thing is, in this instance at a jam with nothing but my "reputation" amongst fellow steelers at stake, I enjoy the sense of danger and the very real possibility that i will NOT survive the song. Its a rush. I also enjoy the motivation to get my expletive together that this humbling expereince provides me. Tho i care about what the other players think and respect their opinions greatly, Im not concerned at all if everyone thinks I cannot play or if anyone is impressed with what little I CAN play.
It IS tempting to look and even run thru them tho.
so if anyone, any new players, has any trepidation at all about not being up to this jam, rest assured there will be someone there fumbling their way thru the set worse than you are.

Stu, my advice is to take Dave G. up on his offer for local transortation.... a few years back Dave was kind enough to pick me up at my hotel, and give a killer tour of all the hot spots that had PSG players that evening...... the ride comes with wall to wall Tom Brumley too
... Dave's a great guy for sure!
Sad to say I don't think I'll make this jam, I'm just joining a new band that looks like it's going to work my fingerpicks to the bone (which of course is a good thing ).... and I won't have much free time this spring/summer.
But I will be there in spirit, had such a ball last year!!!
