Emmons on the Opry

Post by Ernie Renn »

Buddy stopped by the Friday night Opry to see Little Jimmy Dickens. Jimmy called him out on stage to take a bow. Buddy said it was a night to remember.

Ernie, were my ears deceiving me or did Mr. Dickens say something about Steve Fishell being there with Buddy because he was finally writing the book on the life and contributions to the steel guitar of Buddy Emmons?

I made the first picture bigger. It was just too small...

Here's some more from Steve Fishell.

Believe me when I tell you this is an emotional post for me. This was and is a proud moment for all players. Wow, what a gift for someone who to a man or woman must admire for years of service and countless contributions to the pedal steel. We can all thank Buddy for every steel show you have been to or have seen. My hat's off to you Mr. Emmons for a well deserved recognition.

now, this is something GOO was supossed to be all about...music and musicians and not industry... if things like these would happen more often, maybe I would consider buying a ticket and go to see the show...but in todays times of Chesney`s ,Picklers and such I rather sit in the house and have a beer and listen some good country CD`s...

Ernie, that is outstanding news. If in fact that comes to fruition, I would imagine the book to be a best seller in the first month. "Buddy Emmons" is a household name even in some of the most obscure musical genres. I had a client who emigrated from India. The topic of Steel Guitar came up and he immediately blurted "Buddy Emmons plays one of those" which was the very first thing that came to mind. I was blown away because the gentleman spoke very broken English. Seems Buddy Emmons has become an international name. Please keep us posted about the book Ernie. Take care. :D

Thank you folks for taking and posting those pics at the Opry to share with we forumites.
Buddy has always been my idol; I recall seeing him at a show several years ago with Ernest Tubb; Tall, dark and handsome as ever [ As a Young man ]
If I'm not miss-taken, he took a flying jump right over the top of his steel guitar. Sat down and started playing.. Can you still do that Buddy ?And might I inquire; Was the guitar he was playing on Jimmy's clip a Bigsby ? Thot it looked like one..Bernie :whoa:   :whoa:

I was on that half hour with Jimmy C. I couldn't have been happier than to be close by. He played on Jimmy Newmans' early records in the '50's.
