Topic: What Dobro Tuning Would You Use for This Song? |

I'm by no means an accomplished resonator player but I own one and, in a foolish moment, agreed to play a little behind a few tunes for a friend's upcoming house-concert. So I'm woodsheddin'! I have it tuned GBDGBD and that's fine for most of the tunes in question.
But one of the tunes is in a kind of minor-pentatonic mood and I'm wondering whether you experienced resonator guys would suggest that I change the tuning for such a tune, or keep playing in GBDGBD, despite the extra fret-movement required.
Would you kindly give a listen to this 40-second clip and let me know your advice? The dobro doesn't come in till the end of the first verse and takes a nice turnaround after the chorus.

| You don't need to change tunings for this in my opinion. I take it that is NOT you on the clip? If it is, then you sound great. |

Bill, thanks for your input. No, sadly, that's not me. But I hope to sound halfway as good as him by Sunday!

| Sounds like a perfect tune, mood for standard dobro G to me. That would be the tuning I'd choose for it. Nice tune. |

OK, thanks, guys. I can make that work. I just didn't want to be spinning my wheels, building up the muscle memory if everybody was gonna say, "no you dummy! You just tune it like this and then everything lines up perfectly..."

Regular old G should work fine.
One thing you might try for fun on that tune is take make a one string tuning change, drop your sixth string from G down to E.
Sometime poster here and excellent player Greg Booth uses that a lot, and I can hear where it might be nice for that song.
