I picked up a 1978 Session 400 last weekend. Although I normally like tubes, I am enjoying the tone of this amp a lot. When I got it home, I looked more closely at the BW speaker and saw that it was a 1505-8. I will replace it with a 1501-4 (or something comparable) soon, but wondered if, in the meantime, there was any potential for damage to the amp (or the speaker) by playing out with the amp. Will the 8 ohms clamp down the volume so much that I will push the amp too hard? How much of a volume difference will there be?

Thanks

Dan

The impedence "mis-match" won't hurt it. Just cut down on some volume. The only issue is the power handling capability of the speaker.

Thanks Jack,

according to what I could find on the Peavey site, all the Black Widows have the same (350W) power capability.

In the 70's when gear didn't seem to weigh so much, I use to run my 74 Session 400 with an 8 ohm JBL and an extension cab with 2 Altec 12's, so it was seeing a 4 ohm load. Great sounding rig, but I'm sticking with my NV-112's now.
