Beats Walkin' to the Symphony - April 16

My swing band, Beats Walkin', will be performing this coming Saturday, April 16, at a very special concert with the PHILADEPHIA CLASSICAL SYMPHONY Only this time, the symphony has been specially selected to constitute what you Texans would call a "BIG OLE HORN SECTION"! I can't wait to hear BW with a real kickin' horn section.

WHERE: The Philadelphia Cathedral, 38th & Chestnut Streets, Philadelphia

WHEN: Saturday, April 16. Music-themed family crafts workshop starts at Noon. BEATS WALKIN' begins at 1pm and those BIG OLE HORNS join BW starting at 2pm.

COST: Tickets are normally $10, BUT since you are a friend of BEATS WALKIN', just mention that you received this email announcement, and sign up on the Symphony's E-mailing list when you arrive at the door for the concert, and they will let you in ABSOLUTELY FREEEE! No kidding! (If this makes you feel a teeny bit guilty, you can assuage your guilt by purchasing one of our CDs at the concert. That will make you feel much better, we garontee.)

Jim,
Anything with the word Symphony seems kinda dignified?

What kind of material will you be playing. As fer those big ol horns, are you going to be leading that big ol bull of a symphony by the horns?

My Uncle, the horn player might be interested, so I'll let him know (agin). I've been working real hard trying to edjumacate him about steel. Maybe I can trick him into going with that Symphony angle. Me, I'm a University of Texas grad, so's all I can say is "Hook Em Horns".

Well if it wasn't so dang far, I would be right there in the front row middle. What's next Jimbeaux---Carnegie Hall.... It could happen!!!!

Now you do that gig and I'll ride Colm's steer up there for that one.

Hey, we had a great time yesterday. Special thanks to Forum lurker Shane who drove up all the way from DC to be with us, and to Ernest Bovine for lots of consultation on tuning with horns. We should get to hear the recording in about a week and then I'll know what it really sounded like...

I drove up to Philly to hear Jim Cohen and his group play with the Philadelphia Symphony's brass ensemble in a large, beautiful old cathedral. Jim played a number of great solos on tunes such tunes as Route 66, and the music and musicians were superb. On the program, the ensemble also played fanfare compositions by 5 area teenagers, three of which were female, and the pieces were outstanding. It was well worth the trip, and thanks Jim for letting us know.

Way to go Jimbeaux. Stretch that envelope for the steel guitar. Wish I could have heard the "killer" play.
