I spent 3 days at boot camp with Mike a couple weeks ago. Within 5 minutes he spotted my worst bad habits and showed me how to correct them. My band members can already hear the difference!
The rest of the time was spent opening my eyes to how to play and find things I have wondered about for years. It will take me quite some time to incorporate half of what he showed me, but I'm gonna keep practicing until I get it. Just reviewing the video tapes (Yes, tapes. Don't leave home without your camcorder and a lot of media.)I find things he did that we didn't even talk much about.
It was a great time, I learned a lot and enjoyed Teresa's cooking!I hope to get back again. Don't pass it up if you have a chance!

We just returned home from the Florida Steel Show and had a great time! Saw a lot of old friends and made a lot of new ones. Met some new recruits for the "Boot Camp" program. When we got about 30 miles south of Nashville we hit the SNOW!!! Don't let the cold weather hold you back. A great way to spend a winter day is playing all day long with a good hot lunch to break up the day. We won't talk about all the stories that get told over lunch. You have to be here to hear them!!

Georg, I'm still trying to find a guitar for you to rent while you're here. Bobbe isn't renting guitars any more. I'll let you know if I find something for you.
Dates for the spring are beginning to fill up. I really appreciate all the inquiries and the new and returning students. I'm looking forward to spending time with all of you!

Spent some time with Mike on Thursday... We worked on amps. he was so kind to share some time and talent with me. he let me pick his brain and i'm gonna tell you I've never met anyone that I didnt learn something from. It's very simple with Mike we just clicked and it was like a casual conversation musically. Mike is a great teacher and everyone could learn something from him no matter what level you are at. He reminds me alot of Jeff Newmans approach, one on one, no pressure and plenty of patience. You never know who will show up, or who will call.... Heck even Lloyd Green called while I was there & we had Lloyds favorite dish. Teresa made a killer pot of soup!!!
So see no matter who you are time spent with Mike is TIME WELL SPENT !!!

Hey Mike...I would be interested in your boot camp but may not be able to make it that far...assuming it's in Tenn. Do you set up camps thruout the country or just at your place? Also...everyone was very nice with the recommendations, but no one mentioned the price of the camp. I didn't see it on your site either. Maybe you could send me some info on your camps so I can get an idea on when and where they are. How much per day and so on. I hope I didn't put you on the spot here. Just need some extra info.
Thanks, Matt
Thanks, Matt

Normally I'm very quick to post my thoughts or feelings about things but in this case I have waited to digest the day I spent with Mike. First of all I got a bonus as my wife and I stopped on the way and Tommy Butler was there. Now them two together was a hoot!
What a day Friday! I was so nervous in front of Mike and having to play; I played like I just found a steel guitar at the car wash up the road. I played like it was my first day. Mike being the professional and all around good guy that he is worked with me patiently and got me going. By the time Theresa hollered "lunchtime" my head was spinning. Thanks to the good advice from some friends I brought a digital recorder. YOU MUST TAKE A DIGITAL RECORDER!
For several days I've been listening to what I recorded and don't remember half of what he showed me that day. (I'm still not done listening to it.) I have a ton of stuff on the recorder that will take me a good while to digest and learn.
Listen folks, a day with Mike is worth twice what he's asking. Mike is as good at what he does as anyone you can name. Beginner, intermediate, pro, it doesn't matter. Take my advice and go see the man.
A big thanks to Theresa for being a gracious hostess and for preparing a great lunch. They'll treat you like family.
Don't look at BootCamp as a day or two or three. When you get home and play it back to yourself you'll see that you got many years of information from one of the best players that the steel world has to offer.
(Did I mention; TAKE A RECORDER!)
That's all I got to say about that!
