Use your iPhone as a backup tuner!!!

Post by Larz May »

If you folks havent checked it out yet...Peterson has an app for the iPhone called iStrobe. For about 28.00 (app and special cable from Peterson) your iPhone becomes a peterson strobe...let me know your thoughts!!!

My only concern with a phone app is that when you no longer have the phone, you no longer have the app. Better to get a real tuner and be done with it. If you decide you want to sell a real tuner later on, you can. You can't sell the app. Same reason I won't pay the ridiculous price for an iPhone version of the TomTom.
We live to play another day.

I bought the peterson software for my iphone - its awesome. I also bought the 12.99 adapter from Peterson (had it in 1 day) and couldnt be happier.

I actually spoke with a tech at Peterson and they have submitted the tuning sweeteners for the Istrobosoft Iphone software to Apple for their approval. Once approved, it will be a free update for the software that you have already purchased for 10.00

I have a cheat sheet that I keep in my pack a seat that has all of the cents settings for each strings tuning in case I have to use it on the fly.

I also use it for guitar, fiddle... its very handy and accurate!

There is another iPhone app called "ClearTune" that works great. It has user-configurable temper tunings. I use it some and it seems very precise. It works with the Peterson cable as well. I think I paid about $4 for cleartune. It is well worth it to me. It also works well with acoustic guitar without the cable (using iphone built-in mic), which is very handy for me.

I also own a real Peterson strobo stomp, and it is great. I use it as my main tuner, but for $4 the cleartune app makes a nice addition!

The iPhone Peterson strobe tuner ROCKS!. I've used it many, many times and it is the best tuner for under $20 on Earth. When you add the $12 cable adapter, it makes it even better. I have used it on stage with 0 problems and great results.

Also, it provides a great way to take the tuner out of your signal path and doesn't need AC or battery. A killer app.

I restrung my D-8 the other night and used my iPod Touch to tune it up with the Peterson app, 'cuz I was lazy and my regular tuner was in another room. Darned if it didn't work really nicely.
