My Goodrich potless pedal broke so I need to use my old pot pedal until I can get it repaired. The back up pedal was scratchy and all I had was an old AB 250K (made in USA) pot. I installed it and it seems fine. Maybe a weaker signal so I just turn the amp up a bit. Maybe my ear isn't good enough to really tell the difference? Anyone try pots of a different value for their pedals?

Also I need info to get my Goodrich LDR-2 repaired.

thanks
Dave

If it sounds ok to you then I'd say go ahead and use it. The Ernie Ball volume pedals come with a 250K and to me they don't sound like they lose a lot of tone. The higher impedance the pickup is the more difference (mis-match) it will make. If you happen to be running a buffer like a Goodrich Match Box, It shouldn't make any difference in tone at all to use the 250K, you could even use a 10K and be just fine.

Original Fender pedals had 250K Audio pots. Nowadays, 500K is more common, but; either one will suffice!

I like the tone and taper of a 500K pot better, but let me say this... Ernie Ball uses MIJ pots// I don't know where they get them, or who makes them, but they last for years and years.. Light years ahead of the crap 500 K pots coming out of Mexico and Canada. I only wish they made the exact same pot in a 500 K... All problems would be solved for those of us that still like and use pot pedals.

Not weaker maybe... just darker, lacking some presence.

With a 250k you lose some high frequencies.
I don't have that much experience on volume pedals but on guitars the standard for volume controls is 250k for single coil pickups and 500k for humbuckers. Hi-gain mid-sounding humbuckers would sound too dark with a 250k; single coils would risk to shrill too much with a 500k.
On guitars featuring one only volume control and both humbuckers and single coils, you will usually find a 500k pot.
This may suggest that when it comes to compromising (like on a "universal" volume pedal) a 500k pot is better.

Well, I ended up switching the AB 250K for the newer Dunlop 470K I got a few years ago from Tom Bradshaw. Much better. The 250K did have a dull sound compared to the Dunlop. No scratches either! Very Happy I'll be sending my potless Goodrich LDR-2 to Ollie soon for repairs.

Thanks
Dave

You lose a lot of treble with a 250k pot.
