I've recently been trying to change my email account to gmail,,,and have notice there are certain attachments to download that I can not open,,,i.e. .msg and several other types
Anyone else see this as a down side to gmail? |

Sonny, I've been using gmail happily for almost 5 years, never had issues like you've mentioned. |

Are you seeing winmail.dat files, Sonny? Those usually are a sign of a poorly configured Exchange server on the sender's end and can almost always be ignored.
As far as .msg files specifically, I don't know about that but I would also guess that that's the sender's issue. Does it only happen with messages that are forwarded to you? |

So if I'm understanding correctly, you get forwarded messages and they have a file with extension .msg attached. But can you read the email? Because the .msg is most likely the same information duplicated. If you can read the original message then you can probably ignore the .msg file. |

John,,,most if not all the time there is no text message,,just a download. I download and click to open. I tried all the programs listed as an option for opening and none work. I might could forward you one if you want,,to see what I'm talking about. |

In case anyone is wondering, Sonny sent me one of the files and it turns out that even though Outlook won't open it, Thunderbird will. Which is strange, especially since it appears to have been sent from a Gmail account. Oh well.
Also, it was a very funny email |
